Chimney stand, lets get that Smoker/BBQ started

I didn't know where to put this Topic but since i just bought a new WSMS 22.5" here it is.

Told myself i need to build a chimney charcoal stand to make it easy to start my charcoal.

So i had a little spare time at work and went looking around for some rusty and some new parts to build the chimney stand.
I had no idea what it was going to look like, but this is what i found and this is what i built.

Needed some weight for the bottom piece so it would not fall over when lit.... check.
And then a gasket and some bolts.... check.
A flange with a 3" pipe thread...check
A bell reducer 3" to 2"...check
A reducer coupling 2" to 1 1/2" ...check
A bell reducer 1 1/2" to 1"...check
A 1" coupling...check
A few 1" nipples and a coupling...check
And a 1" flange...check

Drilled two different size holes for venting purposes (don't know if that was needed but what the hell it looks nice) in the griddle pan i found at Target for $16.00, one big enough so the long bbq lighter will fit through it to start the newspaper.

A few stainless bolts and washers and nuts.

Got it to the right height for me, the griddle pan handle works great as chimney holder when not in use,
and this is the finished product.

Total Newb on this forum but willing to learn.

Next, wheels with brakes for my WSMS 22.5", don't like the casters, any good ideas?

Stand's looking good ! Let's call it... Semi-Retro ;)
Might want to look into Weber Starter Cubes. No inflight burnt newspaper to deal with.

I can truly appreciate the stand. Pretty dern neat. However, I DO have one criticism. I would have left the grill solid to limit the possibility of something hot getting to a deck (for those who don't have it sitting on concrete). As a "Certified Old Fart", I also appreciate the height of the stand (that's a BIG plus).

I have been using Weber fire starters for some months. I use one starter and have not had a single failure to light properly. I use a discarded tuna can (upside down) to sit the starter cube on (it also has the benefit of raising the cube up into the interior of the chimney). Further, I have been using that can on a grill grate (keeps the cube from falling thru).

At any rate, a cleverly thought out piece of gear and very useful, I might add.

Thanks for heads up on the Weber Starter Cubes Bob & Robert I will give those a try.
Home Depot is you friend two 20LB bags of Kingsford charcoal for $12.87, have 200LBS
and ready to smoke.

I use an old old ironing board! metal type! leave it outside all year long! its good for the chimney and comes in handy for the wsm and kettle lids and racks! it has S hooks hanging for all my cookin utensils! i also use it as my cutting board and prep area table! and holds heaps of empty beer cans!!!!!!

Glad you liked it Jim Lampe anybody that has 12,062 posts knows something about BBQ.
I went to HD and bought some Weber Starter Cubes today,and Sean i like your ironing board idea.
 
Jim i'm only 12,052 post behind you, but once i get the hang of this smoking thing ill be yapping for sure.
