Evening folks..sorry have not been grilling much lately...had deer on my mind the last few weeks!! Not much of a cook here but thought I'd share anyway!!
We took off on the boat this past weekend for a deer trip into a inlet that can be accessed only at high tide..cool and clear this past weekend..highs around 37 and lows about 28 or so! Here's a few pics coming into our spot...this is located on admiralty island (largest population of brown bear in North America)

You can see the current running like a river..

After anchoring up and hiking around the woods for several hours it was time for some beers and chow! Did up a foil packet of taters, onion, peppers and weber garlic herb!

My cooking rig for the evening...sorry no grill tonight!

Thick rib eyes with salt and pepper and butter in a smoking hot 10 inch lodge skillet!

Steaks so big I had to cook them 1 at a time!! Sorry no plated pics...I was hungry!!
Next morning shots...little fog to start!

And a bit later after coming out of the woods ...fog cleared and sun was out!!

That was about it...no deer this trip...lots of bear sign...we had some pretty good size bear tracks on our tracks when we got back to the beach..glad we didn't have to shoo yogi away!!
Hope you enjoyed!!
Take care folks!

Beautiful post Morgan. Thanks for sharing pics of your wonderful state. Your cook looks like a perfect meal to me.

Morgan, great pictures of Alaska. I wish I was going hunting with you. What species of deer are you hunting there? Is it those little black tails I think that they call them? I'm getting ready to go next week. Bull elk & buck mule deer hunting the 13th-17th. 4th & last season in CO. Hope that you have good luck getting that deer! Be sure to post pictures of it if you do get one.

Exactly Russ...little Sitka black tails...our season lasts from August 1st thru Dec 31st but I'm getting to old to be climbing mountains for the early hunts...I use to do it lots when I was younger but my knees are toast from all the up and down hill climbing I did when I was younger! We are hoping for some snow so we can get those deer down to the beach!! Hopefully this next weekend if the weather cooperates!

Good luck on your hunt!

Boo!
Since I know about beef steaks, and pork steaks, I only clicked here to see a "cast iron steak" :p
What a life Morgan!
Love the scenery and cook!

I hear ya about the knees, mine are shot too after many years of packing survey equipment up and down these Missouri hills.

Morgan those are some great pics! I love it! Those steaks looked pretty darn good too! Thanks for sharing a little bit of the great state of Alaska

Very nice Morgan. You do any brown bear hunting?

Tim I am strickly a meat hunter...I have tasted brown bear and it was not too my liking...course I didn't take care of it or cook it so maybe one day..I have killed a few spring black bears...if you can get them fresh out of the den they make excellent burger and sausage!

Thanks every one for looking..again apologize for the non-BBQ cook...charcoal on the boat is not going to happen...I need to get me a little Q100 I suppose...maybe Santa will help out!! My boat list needs are overwhelming !!
