I always do the same when setting up my 14.5. Similar to setting up a snake. I can get more briqs packed in this way. I honestly think it promotes a more even burn throughout the charcoal ring, using the tin-can Minion. Yes, it is a bit OCD. And yes, I am a wee bit OCD.

This may be a silly question Jim but the charcoal looks very neat like you arranged it in the ring as opposed to just pouring them in. Is that correct and if so why?
