Book of Faces find. We missed our Genesis Silver B so much, we got this upgrade!

Found on Facebook and we needed a new grill (new to us at least) so we found this one that was pre-refurbished. I just added Flavorizer Bars that I had from about 10 years ago. The refurb had some aftermarket chrome Flavorizer's. There are some condition issues that I will make sure I search on how to best repair. I suspect the most common issue is the missing paint (?) inside the hood. Used it twice already and just like our old Genesis Silver B, this one is easy to control heat and ribs and steaks were great.

So I have a part that is not installed, but was in the cook box. It is the Manifold support bracket 85899, but I don't know where it goes. I have checked a couple of videos on YouTube for restoring the Silver B series (could not find C series), but I did not see this particular bracket.

Darrell,
I don’t think that is any sort of “paint failure” the inside is enameled like the outside, what you are seeing looks more like
“seasoning deterioration”, the breakdown of grease accumulation which will flake much like bad paint, DO NOT PAINT the inside!
I’m sure some of the amazing restorers will point you in the right direction for the proper installation of the support bracket.
These guys are MUCH more qualified to offer the necessary information than I will be as long as I live!

I just asked ChatGPT, and the enamel apparently can support temps higher than 550F. I don't know the history of the grill hood, but I agree that after I looked at the photos zoomed in, the gray is "above" the shiny black enamel. That is good news I think!

That is not paint in the inside of the lid. It is just burned on carbon from cooking. It can be cleaned down to the original nice shiny porcelain. But it will just get carboned up again anyway.

By the way, I paid $200 delivered. With the work I need to put in, I think maybe an OK deal, but I need to find the RHS swing up shelf and propane tank lock down bracket as well for it to be complete.

OTOH, maybe I am not appreciating this gem "as delivered" since I cooked two wonderful dinners straight away.

Thanks Bruce, I’m too tired and dumb to have accessed your thread on “How to…”
You are one of the good guys, as they say!

I saw that one on sale near me. Bruce I think it is grey paint on inside at least the bottom. If you look closely you can see the black common carbon the edges of the inside of the bottom of the cook box and grey paint used to attempted to cover it. You can also see the overspray on the burners.

There’s a jackass “flipper” near me that spray paints over everything inside of every single cookbox and advertises it as “degreased”.

Does this look correct? I feel that this installation lifts the manifold up based on the knobs are at a slight angle. Are these the wrong tube length? I think probably not because the way the bracket is angled, the bracket provides really good support by forcing tension against the two points with Wing Nuts.

Dang, I didn't even think to look for that. What would be the purpose of painting: really just to look cleaner? And funnily I guess I bought the one you saw.

I am not too excited knowing I am cooking over paint that could be heating and outgassing. Maybe I need to clean this off, and I guess "Refurbished" has a variety of meanings? :)

Edit to add: I see that the gray paint made the bolts look pretty new, so I thinking that may have been the main goal? Still, seems like a sill use of paint. Fortunately it works very well as a grill.
