Baiting Mice

So, a few evenings ago, I was doing an evening after meal blood sugar check with my actual glucometer rather than just my CGM. Sometimes I just like to keep things "honest". Anyway, sitting at the kitchen table and a little mouse pops it's head out and looks at me. Then before I could react it went down the basement stairs. So, I set some traps on the runs where I saw it. Baited with peanut butter (which I've always heard is the bees knees to get them). So, now 2 or 3 days and no Mickey.

What kind of traps are you using? I find glue traps to be very effective and I just use a few pieces of cat food as bait.

Do you put cat food on the glue traps? I have both jaws type traps JAWS brand specifically, and then I got some Tomcat glue traps. I'm surprised I've not gotten anything yet. And I don't have a cat so no cat food.

Those tomcat glue traps are what I have used too, yes I put the bait right in the middle of the glue traps to speed up the process. I'm sure something besides cat food will work as well or better.

This is where the trap(s) need to go, the point of origin. The problem with peanut butter is that they can eat it off the trap before springing the trap. Use a small chunk of apple (no skin) and stick it on the trigger so that the mouse will have to work at getting the apple, and in doing so, trigger the trap. The sticky traps are OK for dumb mice, but not all mice are dumb, sound like you might have a smart mouse

I dropped back to the old standby plain ol orange gooey American Cheese. Found one in the jaws trap exactly where I saw it the first time. DOA Nothing on the glue trap I baited the same way or the ones in the basement (Jaws and sticky). All are baited and waiting

Maybe just looking at you scared him off :D:D:D

I’ve been using cat kibble in my electronic rat trap for years
A few tips:
Electronic doesn’t create a mess (unless you don’t clear the trap soon after kill)
Mice are much less intelligent than rats
Use a camera to monitor trap so you know when it’s been triggered and can clear before it gets messy and smelly
Poison can cause rodent to die and decompose where you don’t want it - think wall space

Here is a link to victor electronic rat traps - rat traps can fit both mice and rats

They don’t make my model any more, but notification via app has been spotty - that’s why I use a camera

Caution - video of trap activation (no blood though)

So far I caught 2. One in the "Jaws" trap and other just a bit ago on the sticky pad trap. I took that one out to the garage, with my little pellet pistol and dispatched it prior to putting him in the trash :D

I know we all love bacon but so do mice and rats.....just leave a few trinkets of bacon in front of the trap and a good piece on the trap and
snap...

There's a moose loose about this hoose

I tend to use poison as they really go for it and it is very effective. Problem is when they die in the floorboards. Yuk.

I also do spot checks around the house for any entry points as they can get in really small openings about the size of a five pence piece (little smaller than a cent I think). You can get mesh to go over air bricks so it doesn't disrupt ventilation. That really did the trick for me. Sadly where I live there is a lot of fly tipping and a chicken shop that doesn't manage waste well so always sources of food nearby :(

Nothing in traps this AM. Honestly I think I got careless while taking some large things outside and I had the attached garage door propped open. When I am by myself I don't have much choice. If wife is home she helps but she's not always around when I need her
