Back on the chain gang

After being involuntarily retired for nearly 8 months I landed a new gig this week, but it's definitely going to be a change of pace; after 34+ years in IT I'm going to now be a counterman at one of the local auto parts stores. But I've always been a gearhead in my spare time so I think it's going to be fun, and my resume's in the hands of quite a few IT search firms so I could still possibly get back into that.

I have to admit, though, that I've definitely gotten used to not having to go to work!

Congrats, Brad! Glad that wait is over with. Having gone through about 4 months of the same situation last year, I can appreciate getting used to not having to work. Though I must admit, that income thing sure is nice.

....$5 says you don't make it through your first week without tuning the network! :) Glad ya got a paycheck coming in, Brad!

I don't think I could ever go back on a chain gang. It's why I spent so many years prior to retirement building themixerdoc. But, hell I have even cut somewhat back on that as well. Though since now my little guy isn't living with us anymore :( (sure miss having him under foot), I may pick it back up again. I have one machine in inventory at moment pre-sold just have daughter testing it out until I get my mom's very old one going for her. IIRC she bought that while I was still in High School waaaaay back 100 years ago LOL. I am sure there is grunge in there nearly 60 years old LOL. But it still runs smoothly and quietly. So it will be even better. Who knows maybe she'll hand it down to her grandkids

I was able to fully retire at 53 twenty years ago after working 35 years for the phone company in California. Did a short stint working at Sears part time in the tool department, but hated every minute of it. When they took us off salary and put us on commission only I said see ya.

I have 4 more years of being a traveling customer service rep, then I'm retiring!
Pammi is retiring in another year or 2, as soon as she hits 25 years with the local school system
Then we're selling the house, buying a bigger camper and going traveling full time!
I may, or may not, come see a bunch of you guys!
Who am I kidding, I'll probably come see most of you if you're willing to give me your whereabouts!

Phil, on your way out to Central Tx BBQ joints you might consider stopping by the Jack in Lynchburg TN then over to Chris Lilly’s in Decatur AL. If you do that you’ll pass by the house. I am just south of Lynchburg and just east of Decatur. There’s usually ~10 gal of cold beer on tap, I have 30 amp service, and a level pad. Welcome mat is out.

A little while ago the manager called me and told me that I'd passed all my tests, checks, etc. and wanted to know when I wanted to start, and after thinking about it for a minute I picked Monday the 25th. I texted this to my wife and she replied, "What's wrong with the 18th?"...just like I knew she would!

Good luck with that! I worked the counter at a local chain store in evenings and weekend while finishing my Navy days, and Assistant Manager for a while. That place was always too busy, a line out the door and the phones ringing on all 4 lines all day. I still get twitches when I hear that particular ring somewhere lol.

I've been giving it some thought and I think I may need to do something on the WSM this weekend, so that I can introduce myself via some fragrant, smoky leftovers at lunch on Monday.;)
