Have Fun!
If you travel at
night thru Big Pine Key (mile marker 25 to 35)
KNOW that the
speed limit is 35MPH
This is STRICTLY enforced!
This is to protect the endangered Key Deer that are very active after sundown and throughout the dark hours into the morning.
Also, if you come into contact with the Key Deer, Do Not Touch, Approach or Feed them. You Will Be Fined.
These rules and laws are STRICTLY enforced.
Key West can be fun, mostly shopping and drinking with decent restaurants. You'll see chickens roaming the streets and sidewalks, parking lots...
Mango Mama's located at mile marker 20 is a shack with excellent food. The service? well...
We've stayed in Key West, Marathon, Key Largo, Tavernier and Islamorada.
Islamorada, in my opinion, has the BEST restaurants.
Green Turtle Inn, Lorelei's Cabana (outdoor seating only), Marker 88 are awesome places with the freshest fish.
If you take in 4 hours of deep sea fishing, Islamorada is the place to go.
Many good charters avail.
Everything is laid back in the keys, however, it is not what it used to be.
We last visited the in Dec'22.
Been there dozens of times starting in 1984.
Even if you HATE Key Lime Pie, You
MUST try it in the Keys, I used to hate it until I had my 1st bite in the Keys, Now I'm sold.

Lorelei's

Key West (the original Sloppy Joe's)
One note.... in 2003 after spending a week in Key West, our flight (Miami airport) home was Sunday morning at 9am.
We left KW driving our rental with 3½ travel time.
However, I did NOT take into consideration the lower speed limits during dusk hours.
We missed our flight home. The plane took off AS WE RAN INSIDE the airport after a shuttle ride from the car return.
PLAN ACCORDINGLY.
