Any other Type II diabetics out there using Ozempic?

As subject line implies, curious if there is anyone else out there using this drug? If so anyone else suffering some of the nasty side effects? And, if so how are you combating them? I've been dealing with them now for quite some time and they're getting worse, and I am not finding it easy nor maybe even worth trying anymore. Ugh
 
A buddy of mine is on it, he hasn't mentioned any side effects (other than the pharmacy jerking him around on the prescription.) This really is something you need to take with your GP.
 
I definitely have spoken with them. The specialist somehow thinks the benefits outweigh the bad. I'm just curious if anyone else is dealing with it. It is helping to keep my A1C in the normal range (IIRC like 6).

Okay, you really do need to advocate for yourself. YOU need to decide if you want to live with the side effects, balanced against the benefits. It would be to your advantage to listen to the specialist's counsel, but it's your decision.

I don't think I'm a candidate for a couple of reasons. I'm insulin deficient (on injections,) not resistant. And my A1c as of yesterday was 6.0.

Yeah, I think we'll be having another talk. I take a synthetic extended release insulin injection. No need to constantly measure glucose. Just basically one dose a day. The endocrinologist has me on it to try and promote some weight loss and stabilize A1C. Weight loss hasn't happened but I am not gaining weight. Though still quite over where I should be. Doc said if I could take off 30# half the meds would not be needed anymore. And I am trying. Which is why he decided a Semaglutide (Ozempic) would be a good therapy to try. I thought it was as well but getting second thoughts
 
I’m switching to trulicity after the first of the year, I have had some of the less pleasant side effects the dizziness now and then but, the mad dash (UPSTAIRS) to the bathroom comes and goes. I love living in a cape cod house!

Let me know how the Trulicity goes.
 
I have been on Ozempic now for say 5 months started out with a .125 dose now up to a .500 dose starting tomorrow Sunday am is my injection day.
I had a few days ( 5 or 6) of fast trips to the bathroom, then after that I would get heartburn, which I was given Zantac for which went away and returns every couple weeks not steady. I have lost about 25#s which is handy.
Overall I am good with it so far but if I do have the need to change I just make a call to my VA pharmacy Doctor tell my issues and we formulate a plan for the next type that will work for me and my body stats . A1C 6.2 from 7.7, I had everything spike after COVID.
Hope all works out for you guys what ever you choose. This is good info to keep a conversation going about.

I started on .5mg dose. Stayed on that for awhile with just a few issues (again always related to "gut" issues), but "tolerable". Then moved on to 1 mg dose with doc hoping to work up to 2 mg dose as that seems to be the dose that helps most in getting weight loss to begin. But as time goes on this 1mg dose becomes less tolerable. He put me back to .5 mg then tried working me back up to 1 mg about 5/6 weeks ago but time went on and the issues began coming back. I can't imagine how bad it would be going to 2 mg
 
I’m on a 1 mg. dose and the side effects are more “impactful” than when I was on the lower dose. Switching to Trulicity as Medicare won’t cover the Ozempic and the “corporate deals” go away just when they would really do the most good! Ridiculous!

I’ll let you know, the sawbones and pharmacist are both saying that they are finding pretty good results for a LOT less out of pocket cost. I have another 6 weeks of Ozempic in stpick so, after the frost of the year I’ll transition to the trulicity
 
I was on Trulicity for a couple of years. it worked well and no side effects for me. I switched to Ozempic for because my Dr. likes it but it has done nothing for my weight. I think I will switch back to Trulicty next time i see my Dr.
 
I've only been on Metformin, and had some limited GI issues with that, nothing bad enough to try something else. I've been off Metformin for a year now, and been able to maintain A1C <6 with diet and exercise.

I have some family members that tried Ozempic and had some pretty significant GI issues. 1 of them decided himself to just stop taking it (DON'T do that), and the other is going to switch to Trulicity. Word is that Trulicity has lesser side effects and similar to better results. It certainly may be worth a try after you and your PCP/GP talk it over.

Whatever you do (speaking to all, not just one), please consult with a good medical practitioner.
 
Besides not being a handyman I'm not a physician. I did have success working with an excellent dietitian and had a 60 lb. weight reduction with a low carb diet. Since then I moved to a whole food plant based diet for a year or so. Now, I'm low meat with fruits, veggies, legumes...whole food diet. Yes, I did let BBQ creep back in. All that said IF you suffer from one of many chronic Western diseases...their are clear paths using the whole food plant based strategy that do work. Clearly this is not the most receptive audience for such but I would be remiss to not mention this avenue. Drugs may be part of a solution...however some peeps have eliminated quite a few drugs by managing their diet.
 
Started on Metformin when first diagnosed. Next thing they started noticing my kidney function going in the toilet. At that point my GP directed me to a kidney specialist and an endocrinologist. One diagnosed me at stage 3 kidney failure and the endocrinologist noted the metformin is what damaged my kidneys. Metformin can be very dangerous stuff to the kidneys. Thankfully after being off it and being careful the issue is stabilized and under control
