Another Rotisserie Question - Weber vs OnlyFire

Hello,
I have gotten the bug for a rotisserie for my 22” kettle.
I’ve been weighing the pros/cons of Weber vs. OnlyFire.

I have always purchased genuine Weber accessories for my grills. However, the Weber 2290 rotisserie seems to be fairly hard to find.
Weber has been out of stock for a while, and no one carries them locally. I even called Weber to inquire if they were coming out with a new model since they have been out of stock so long. The representative said no, they’re just on back order.
I’ve read both good and bad reviews, most of the negatives being poor fitment of the ring and price.

The OnlyFire has great reviews, but I am skeptical because it is almost $100.00 less than the Weber. There has to be sacrifices somewhere at that price point I would think. Also, I prefer buying US made when possible even if that means paying more.

What are your opinions?

I was gifted a Weber roti ring and am quite satisfied with it. The stainless might be a little easier to clean but, that’s the only difference that would matter for me. The enamel isn’t hard to clean either really.
 
My used Weber rotisserie set up did not come with a counter balance either. I have one from my gas rotisserie.

Honestly, in think careful meat placement suffices without the need for a counterbalance. I do check my loaded spit without connecting it to the motor to asses for adequate balance.
 
The older Weber rotisserie fits inside the kettle and the OnlyFire has a lip that goes over the outside of the kettle which I find more stable and convenient. The OnlyFire is also stainless steel, not enamel coated so it never chips and rusts. There is no comparison in my mind to the Weber and if you buy the OnlyFire combination rotisserie / pizza kit you get both for not much more money.

I was wondering about the counterweight. Weber’s description says something to the effect of “Weber’s motor design eliminates the need for a counterweight.”
I don’t know how that works, but that’s what they say.

I’ll post some pics once I get one in operation.

I think the motor just has more torque or umph.
My Kamado joe rotisserie doesent have a counterbalance and I've never noticed any problems.
Gonna do a 20# turkey sunday for my Son. I'm interested to see how it handles that.
 
If the overall weight on the spit is balanced there is consistent torque throughout the 360 degree rotation.

If the balanced, then there is more torque demand on the motor and gears when "lifting" the extra weight and more torque demand on the motor and gears to lower the extra weight.

I don't overthink it when I load the spit but I don't work too hard to balance it since I know the counter weight is easy to set and adjust.

Good link Dan! It took me a while to dial in the “let the heavy side settle and install the weight “up”. concept but, it absolutely helps! Less drag and “bang” on the motor. Less stress, longer life!
