When I saw this deal, I wondered if they’re on the verge of a model upgrade. Bottom line, if you don’t already have one, this is a great price on a great thermometer.

+1. I was sceptical about this due to the higher price tag. I went with lime green and absolutely love it.
 
So I got an email today that they are closing out the Mk4 and that something big is coming. I thought so. It will be interesting to see what the next iteration is.
 
I kind of hope they are not getting out of the market that the MK4 holds. I would hate to see them replace it with a cheaper, lower quality jack knife probe in order to compete with the "knock off" Chinesium market.
 
I don't like the way they are doing this. I get it from their prospective but not from mine as a buyer. If I wait and they sell out will I be mad or if I buy now will I be mad because the new model would have been a better option. Why not let us have the choice between new and old with a little crossover. Without knowing anything it puts people in a bad spot IMO. Just spill the beans and let people know the price and bells and whistles. Not like they won't be able to sell the MK4 but not sure I will want a higher priced option.
 
I don't think they are going to the lower end, probably make some improvements maybe a better display although I see no issues with the Mk4 the way it is, add a magnet maybe although sticking it on a fridge is not an option in my house plenty of kitchen drawers to store it in but some might want to stick it on the side of a grill frame or whatever. Maybe a loop so you could hang it.

Not sure they can make the specs any better than they are but never hurts to update a product I mean the Mk4 was an update over the Classic giving you a backlit display and the rotating display better battery life. Its a great price at $69 bucks so lets say they come out with the new model and go back to the $99 dollar retail then put on sale from time to time at $79 bucks. You still got a decent deal and since we don't know what the new model will include it may be stuff you could care less about.

Companies clear out old models all the time so really don't see a problem with what they are doing. I am also curious why not keep the Mk4 around get rid of the classic sell it for less then price the new model to what they were doing before.
 
Seems like in between the classic and the MK4 they had a backlit classic model. I've got the classic and there's times I wish I had the backlighting but that's about it. My guess is they add USB charging.
