I am almost done on the rehab of my grill, but the previous owner allowed lots of gunk to build up on the back and top of the lid. The stuff on the back is visibly thick in places, and will come off slowly if I pick at it. There also are thinner spots on the back and top that have not come off with soap, vinegar or rubbing alcohol (actually, vinegar and lots of rubbing got tiny amounts off, but it was incredibly slow going).
Also, there is crud where the side pieces of the lid attach to the red enamel portion. I was contemplating disassembly to facilitate cleaning, but I was a little worried that bolts and things might be deteriorated in a way that would make it hard to reassemble. A cleaner that would soften up the crud and allow for scrubbing removal with a small brush would be preferable to disassembly.
I was considering trying Goof Off, oven cleaner or a degreaser, but I would welcome advice. The photos attached show the back view of the lid, and a close-up of the bottom of the lid where the thick gunk is.
