AccuRite Thermometer Saves the Day

We've had a few discussions here about thermometers for the freezers.

I use an AccuRite Wireless Thermometer for my freezers and keep the receiver by my TV chair. Last night I noticed the upright in the garage
was registering higher than normal temps - but still below freezing. The compressor wasn't working.

An appliance repairman met me at the house shortly after noon today and replaced a burned-out relay.
For $290 and less than 2 hours of missed work, about $1200 worth of food, and possibly the cost of a new upright, were saved.

I sure am glad I got that thermometer after the last freezer failed. :giggle:

After having both a refrigerator and a freezer die on us, I have external alarms on everything here now. Cheap insurance. I'm not sure that it really matters which you get, as long as you can get alerted somehow.

We have a 24 cf freezer and a smaller standard fridge/ freezer in the garage both are monitored by a remote thermometer which has high and low temp alarms for them. I keep the remote in the kitchen next to our house refigerator.
Never had a real problem except when the freezer door on the fridge / freezer was accidently left open which set off the alarm in the house. Nice to have that secure feeling that it's being monitored. The big upright must have well over a $1000 of meat in it, would hate to lose that.

I don't want to steal Brenda's thunder--and I hope she replies--but we spoke about thermometers (and lithium batteries) in this thread last summer: https://tvwbb.com/threads/meat-storage-freezing.91991/

And, yes, we drifted a couple times, lol.

That I see on a real quick review, thermometers were linked in these posts: 27, 29, 31, 48.
LOL I was going to say - weren't your batteries dead last time we had this discussion?

If you decide to get batteries, I have had good results with the lithiums that are recommended by manufacturer. They last a long time.

Thanks for the link, I used it to find my link! :giggle:

Somehow the reasoning here escapes me. Simply was looking at them since if she had a good experience I thought I would order a couple
Just knowing that you will dive headlong into the research on which one you will get and then recommend!😉
It’s a good thing buddy.
Will wait for your report on what you like or don’t like about them.

I've had good luck with units from Thermoworks.........
I like Thermoworks too and have many of their products. In fact, one of their units monitors my kitchen frig/freezer. But when I shopped for one for the garage, they didn't have the remote receiver.

I will likely be adding a couple of those to my arsenal. As in the basement I have an 18 cu ft fridge/freezer, and my standalone freezer. So I would want to be sure I can monitor both since being in basement neither is used often but both are important

Buy a good one. The one I have has to be re synched a few times a month.
My garage is detached and is out back about 25' The freezer is against the back wall so that's another 24'
I had to disable my alarms because of that.
I have this one.
Tim. that's the exact same one I have. My garage is attached and the receiver and sending units are only about 15-20 feet apart. No issues, the sending units go over a year on a set of batteries and the receiver is run by A/C.
Did have to up the alarm on the fridge/ freezer because when it went into the defrost cycle it would sometimes set off the high temp alarm.

This AcuRite has 2 transmitters, one intended for refrigerator and the other for freezer. I just use both for freezers.
In the garage I have an upright freezer and the side by side "beer fridge", and in the house I have a typical fridge/freezer.
Inside, I use this ThermoWorks https://www.thermoworks.com/rt8100/?tw=VWB&chan=TVWBB I don't really think it's necessary inside, but I already had it.

In the garage, one AcuRite transmitter stays in the upright, and the other transmitter stays in the freezer side of the beer fridge.
The other side of the beer fridge is opened often enough that its status is never in question. :ROFLMAO:

Mine works flawlessly, but now that I think about it, there is really only a wall and a fireplace between the freezers and where I keep the receiver.
Yours may be farther. But if you are thinking about these, Amazon has them on sale now, plus an extra coupon.

(According to auto-fill, I have been removing too many letters in my refrigerator abbreviation, so I am changing from frig to fridge - when I can remember.) LOL Also misspelled the brand name. 🙄

Well, none the less I would need 2 systems. One with a dual sending unit for the downstairs fridge/freezer and the other for my stand alone freezer
