A Steven Raichlen-Thon ......

Raichlen definitely has the biggest body of work and most interesting recipes out there. He's a culinary giant in my opinion. His "stage/screen" presence isn't as flashy as many others so he doesn't get the credit he deserves. If Raichlen wasn't a nerd like me he'd probably be more famous than Guy Fieri, and be driving that bad *ss camaro... 🤣

John, I think Raichlen IS more famous than Fieri!!!!!!

Has anyone made any of Raichlen's recipes?

Are you talking about from his TV show or from his books ?

Years ago, I bought his " Ribs, Ribs, Ribs " book and made the First Timer Ribs. They were very very good and I've made them a lot since. It has a baste , or he calls it a " mop sauce " , that's soy sauce and apple cider. The rub has brown sugar, but the ribs are more savory. I think we have made a couple other rib recipes, but I can't recall.

Both!!!!

Lynn, some years ago, I printed out that recipe from the cookbook, but never got around to making it. Thanks for the nudge. lol Started back in '94 keeping a list and rating of rib recipes that we made, but not where we got the recipes. Will have to check which ones might be Raichlen's. Have 57 MADE recipes - 1 rated "EXCELLANT" (started using that rating around 2000) and only 27 received a "VERY GOOD".

If you have a smart tv, or a device like an Amazon FireStick, they have the PBS app, which carries all of Project Smoke and Project Fire. They’re also on the iPhone app.

Have a couple of his books and really like Planet BBQ. Yes - I have made several of his recipes. I have PBS set to record Project Smoke. Episode 109 is the only one I've seen come up and it's a Thanksgiving theme. When it came on this year, it inspired me to cook a smoked turkey dinner but I did not use his recipes from the show.

I’ve made a bunch of them.

His coffee rubbed pork tenderloin and redeye bbq sauce are one of my go-to recipes, as well as his first timer ribs. Another crowd pleaser is the smoked shrimp.

I’ve tried a few others, including his Bourbon Brown Sugar smoked pork loin, and his Asian style baby backs.

Also the desserts, Smoked Apple crisp, smoked pears, and the rotisserie pineapple.
All have been excellent

I have made a few of Raichlen's recipes. I love my BBQ Bible Cook Book and should be using it more often. That cook book is a keeper. Lots of very interesting recipes in that one.

John, which version do you have. This is the one I have. I like the format a lot better than the first one.

My Raichlen books, although the " Best Ribs Ever " is just " Ribs, Ribs, Outrageous Ribs " in a new cover and title. But I've done several rib recipes from that book I bought on June 20, 2006.

Nice thing about having the same Amazon account for over 20 years, I can find exactly when I bought something, I bought the " How to Grill " book on July 11, 2005. I've not pulled it off the bookshelf in years and years.

" Planet Barbecue " was bought in 2018 and I've really not explored the book much .

I get that.

Some of the things he does with a grill or a smoker, make me cringe. But he's got a lot of interesting recipes. He's more on the " cheffy " side , than a smoker of meats.

And just to clarify, this is the real barbecue bible ;)

Lynn, I have 3 of the 4 books. So you say the new rib book is a duplicate of the other rib book? No new recipes?

Thanks, I don't want to steal your thread, will continue Raichlen talk on my BBQ/Cookbook thread. Hope to see you there.

OK, then I can say I can't wait for Season 4 of Project Fire to start next month. lol

You can bet I will be posting recipes from that book on my BBQ/Grilling cookbook thread.
