I posed this on the introduce yourself, then scrolled down and found this folder.

new to this forum. Found it after I got a 14" WSM smoker for my birthday. We bought a Genesis about 2 years ago and love it! Just smoked a beer can chicken and it was outrageously good!! Plotting a salmon or brisket next. so many choices!

Look forward to learning more about the WSM and other techniques. Glad I found this site.

Welcome, Dave! Coincidentally got a 14" WSM for my birthday last summer and the first cook was also a beer can chicken. As Dwain said, you're going to love the new toy! If you haven't picked one up one already i'd recommend a Weber compact chimney starter as your first accessory to get those minion method smokes started right.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to a Weber smoker. I know you'll enjoy both. Spend some time reading the cooking section and the forums and asking questions and if you're not already a great BBQ'er, you soon will be.

Dave Car;
Be sure and check out the "Cooking Topics" section of this forum. In "Cooking Topics" is my favorite way to do chicken parts (Hot and Fast Chicken). That method also works extremely well with splatch cocked chickens (I go one step farther, and halve the chickens for easier handling). Cornish Game Hens are terrific when cooked that way.

Also, I would make the suggestion to look up the PDF of Harry Soo's recipes and techniques. His ribs are to DIE for!

Keep on smokin',

You are going to love that cooker.
A brisket might be a bit too large for it.
You can cook killer tri-tip with it.

a whole wouldn't fit, but the last couple I made in the oven I had to cut in half to fit the rack. Halfed it fit in a 13x9 with a rack in it. I am thinking about a 7ish pounder cut in half will fill both shelves nicely and maybe swap positions half way?

That is crazy!! I did pick up a Weber chimney starter, I didn't think a couple rolls of paper would fire it up. I am blown away.
I am super excited.

I got a Genesis three years ago and a WSM Oct 2014.
Love both of my cookers.
That side burner on the Genesis makes a great chimney starter....just sayin'
