BBQ Guru DigiQ vs Thermoworks SmokeX + Billows

Are you keeping your daisy wheel/rEGGulator barely open? Also on your WSM, top vent fully open as normal?

BBQ Guru DigiQ vs Thermoworks SmokeX + Billows

Thank you. I corrected the title. Typo on my part. I’m glad you mentioned the BGE. I recently got a Large, and like the idea of an ATC I can use on both.

BBQ Guru DigiQ vs Thermoworks SmokeX + Billows

I’ve been running my 18.5” for 11yrs without an ATC with good results, but I’m considering one for long, overnight cooks. Does anyone here have experience with the two above, and if so, what are your thoughts?

PartyQ probe and lamp eyelet mod

A while back I did the lamp repair kit(threaded tube) eyelet mod found on this site. I want to know if the alligator clip on the PartyQ/DigiQ will fit through the eyelet. Thanks.

Question about using sand in the water pan

So other than temp control, is there really any other benefit to using water vs sand vs empty pan? I'm pretty comfortable with temp control using the bottom vents. Last cook it ran pretty stable around 230* without much babysitting. I use a Maverick ET-732, so I was able to spend my time doing...

Question about using sand in the water pan

I am fairly new to the WSM, and have about 5 cooks under my belt. I have always used a full pan of water so far, but I want to try cooking with sand in the pan. My question is this: Do those of you that use sand keep the sand in the pan when the WSM is not being used? My main concern is the...

    Texas > Marshall: Bodacious Bar-B-Q

Bodacious Bar-B-Q in Marshall, TX, just east of HWY 59 on HWY 80(just past Whataburger). Excellent food: brisket, pork spareribs, mild and hot sausage, turkey, ham around Thanksgiving & Christmas, and sloppy joes. Sides include beans, potato salad, and slaw. Also offer pickles, onion, peppers...

    1st Mod Eyelet Install

I just did this mod using a plain 3/8" drill bit. I taped the area with two strips of blue tape, pressed the drill bit into the center of the tape and then into the porcelain. Tapes helps keep it from chipping and helps keep the bit from wandering. No problem whatsoever. You may have some burrs...

    1st Mod Eyelet Install

My home depot had the 3/8" and the 1/2" size lamp pipe, but only had the brass caps for the 3/8". So a 3/8" is plenty big enough for both of the ET-732 probes, and a 3/8" hole is the perfect fit for the 3/8 pipe. Correct me of I'm wrong, but I think it's time to go make my purchase.

    1st Mod Eyelet Install

After a scouting run to my local HD, I have a question. Do both probes for the ET-732 fit thru the 3/8" lamp pipe? They sell them in a multipack of varying lengths, so I'm guessing you guys are using the shortest one in the pack. Is that correct? If so, I'm ready to go jump on this mod.

    1st Mod Eyelet Install

What size hole did you drill, and what size is the threaded insert? I've seen a couple of sizes listed in other posts. I have a 732 also and I just want to make sure that both probes fit through the hole. Also, what is the length of the insert? Thanks!
