Okay I'm sold! Going to make a 26" Performer

Not sure how I missed this thread also but have to join the chorus = what an absolutely gorgeous build. Really incredible craftsmanship and simply beautiful. I am in awe. ;)

    WSM 14.5 or 18.5

The 14" is perfect and can easily cook for a medium size family depending on what you want to focus on. A 14" rack is more than enough for a good size pork shoulder. You have two of them. You can stand poultry up on the bottom rack, a good size chicken 6lbs easy and a smaller turkey no...

    Ribs on a 14.5"

No issue with 3 racks of BB. If you don't want to use a rib rack, roll em. You can easily fit four without issue. These little guys punch way outside their class. I definitely also think there is an opportunity for a resourceful person to construct a hanging rack for the 14's that could work...

Weber Summit Charcoal Grill and Summit Charcoal Grilling Center - New for 2016

Esteemed board. I am somewhat worked up with this new model. I hate my reaction to it. I do. But the price is 2x beyond what I think most people will pay. Perhaps when I see one and see the quality I will change my mind. But,,, I want this. But not at that price. I'd like to propose to...

Weber Summit Charcoal Grill and Summit Charcoal Grilling Center - New for 2016

Esteemed board, this product to me is a huge disappointment. The price is honestly insane. They are going head to head with so many high end Q products with a glorified kettle that honestly when I saw the price, I thought it was a mistake or a typo. In Canada, the basic Summit is 2K. Umm...

    Hanging Ring For 14.5 WSM?

imho, a well designed rack for the 14.5" could easily hang 4 slabs. Not sure about meaty spares, but for sure backs. This sounds like an opportunity to an enterprising member. :-)

Sad day today for my brisket.

Thomas, that is really tough. For my first brisket, I would not trust an overnight cook. You had two things going against you = closed vents and high winds. Really tough to set before you head off for zz's. My sincere best to you on your next cook. I'm still learning everytime. :-)

    14.5 to 18.5 or 22??

After I moved from a kettle, had a 18" WSM = 1995. This was the only available size at the time. Awesome cooker. However, even with company, I always thought it was bigger than needed, for most of my cooks. I'd normally cook for 20 people or so. The key question is what you like to cook and...

    14.5 vs 18.5

Steve, you hit on another reason why the 14.5 is ace. :-) You wouldn't think the difference in inches makes such a difference, but it does. On the plus side, 14.5 can cook a ton and is SO much easier to manage. Clean, etc. But if you feel the need for space the 18.5 is the way to go...

    14.5 vs 18.5

If it's just the two of you, plus company the odd time, the 14.5 is ace. You can easily fit a large butt on each rack, which can feed an army of people. If you're a young family, then I'd go with the larger size as you will use it. Figure out how often and the max you'll cook for, then your...

    WSM or Electric?

I can attest an electric definitely has it's advantages. Started with Kettles, then a WSM 18" which btw was ace. Got tired of the clean and startup. In 06 picked up a Cookshack 55. As stated earlier, if you want to cook and not watch, these are the way to go. There could be a snowstorm...

Please Stop Me From Buying a 14 WSM!

Tom, that little cooker is looking to you to provide it's new home. It NEEDS you. I've got a model 55, had an 18.5 wsm (departed) and my 14.5. Love the baby WSM - perfect for most uses. You need to pull the trigger. You NEED to. :-)

    14.5" WSM Customer Satisfaction Survey

I'll add support Jeff too. Kettles are great> Nothing better for grilling and even mid length smoking. I still love them. :-) But wsm' are built for the low and slow. You can indeed turn out wonderful q on the kettles. No question. Fact tho, much easier on a wsm, of any size. A couple...

    14.5" WSM Customer Satisfaction Survey

Chris, I submitted to the survey also. :-) These are just brilliant smokers. For couples, or small families or even for a pretty large gathering they can cook a ton. I had an 18" years ago after using kettles for dedicated smoking. 18 is an excellent mid size rig, but honestly in my specific...

    Kind hello from Ontario

Kind people, I seem to have double posted in my excitement to introduce myself. My apologies. I'm a long time follower of this board, and just love it. I'm excited with my 14.5 too. Just glad to be back in the camp, my home. I'll be quiet now and go back to lurk mode. Dave.

    Hello from Port Hope!

Kind people, I acquired my disease whilst touring through South Florida, Largo area; some years ago. :-) Went to a Q joint called Michelbob's, had true q ribs and have been on the search for the holy grail ever since. Got a kettle, and worked it and then followed with a new wood handled 18"...
