    Probe Thermometers

The latest issue (Jul/Aug 2020) of Cooks Illustrated ran a test on Remote-Probe Thermometers. Thermoworks Smoke came in as the only one "Highly Reccomended". Weber iGrill2 came in as "Not Recommended." YMMV. Cheers, Paul

    Heating Water in Water Pan

Jeff, Thanks. I use heavy gloves all the time when grilling and BBQing so no issue there. The stability thing is a worry through and I'd hate to have water dumped all over the coals - could make for a bad day. Overall, I'm just trying be a little more efficient. But good things to consider. Paul

Prep table for outdoor cooking area

Found a less expensive one (different stainless) on same site with Free Shipping. https://www.webstaurantstore.com/18-gauge-economy-24-x-36-430-stainless-steel-work-table-with-undershelf/522ETSG2436.html Kyle you are correct, it does not have wheels and I would be using it on a concrete patio...

    Fried Turkey Rub

Hi all, Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on best rub for a fried turkey? This can be either commercial rubs or homemade recipes. I realize timing of the rub as well as application technique is essential as the hot oil will burn off alot of any surface rub. Thanks, Paul (and yes I...

    Commercial Sauces and Rubs

Hi Joan, No, in fact I usually prefer making my own stuff and I rarely use commercial spice mixes. But that is not to say there are not some great off-the-shelf products out there. For example, I have tried to make my own hot sauce, even growing and fermenting my own peppers. After all that...

    Commercial Sauces and Rubs

    Commercial Sauces and Rubs

What are your personal favorite pre-made sauces and rubs? And for which meat do you use these? I have used Texas Rib Rangers rub and sauce for ribs recently but, as I am just getting serious about BBQ I am open to any and all suggestions. (I realize taste is subjective but quality is not!)...

    Philadelphia BBQ restaurants

Philly is a great food town but does not have a plethora of good BBQ places. This is starting to change a little. It will probably never be a BBQ town but at least there are some places starting to open and/or get some recognition. There are more than are listed in this article but it is a...

I'm a sucker for outdoor cooking gadgets!

In the world of Guitars (especially acoustic geetars) we call this GAS - for Guitar Acquisition Syndrome. It means that two guitars are better than one and three are better than two. This could easily apply here... Paul

    WSM 18.5 door question

So I have been thinking about getting a WSM and have pretty much settled on the 18.5 model. I saw one at Home Depot today and was fiddling with it. I have read about but never quite understood what people meant by the issues with he door. So my questions are: 1. How much fiddling or opening...

    Hello from Philly

Thanks guys, good news is that I was able to replace the valve (new one from GrillParts.com) without any trouble and I was also able to get the control panel side plate fixed. Since I am not in any way mechanically inclined I am pretty happy with myself in getting my grill back up running like...
