Rivet Removal on a WSM Pre-2009

The problem with drilling out rivets is that they tend to spin. I think I would try using a small grindstone in a drill (or a Dremel tool) , and grind off the rivet from the inside, being careful not to damage the porcelain. Or, if you can press the head of the rivet against a wood block (or...

    My First Cook Ever

Nice job for your first cook. The stall gets us all. You know it's coming, you just don't know how long it will be. As for temperature, I usually try for 250 but I cooked the last butt at 275 because it was 10 pounds, and it was one of the better ones I've ever made. So if you can get the WSM...

You know you're getting old when...

I still have my Post Versalog, leather case, and instruction book. It still amazes me that I would go into something as important as a math final, do a bunch of manipulations on the slide rule in a few seconds, and have the confidence to write down the result as my answer. I joke that, if...

    Yet another butt

Butts were 0.99/lb today, and the temperature hit 70 degrees, so I had to cook one. A little over 10 pounds, rubbed with Memphis Dust, and cooked over Walmart briquettes (that's all I had) and hickory. It cooked for about 11-1/2 hours and is now resting in a cooler. I didn't take any pre-cook...

    more butt...

Excellent! Butts were .99/lb here, and it's 70 degrees outside, so I put a 10 pound butt on at around 6:30 this morning. It just hit 185 degrees internal, so I have a while to go. I hope it's half as good as yours appears to be. 😁

The "purrs like a kitten til the lake pipes roar" is from "Little Deuce Coupe". "She's got a competition clutch with the four on the floor And she purrs like a kitten till the lake pipes roar And if that ain't enough to make you flip your lid There's one more thing, I got the pink slip daddy."

    My first post

Welcome, Scott! I never got bit by the gas grill restoration bug (repainting and replacing burners on a Jacuzzi grill surely doesn't count - when its cast aluminum body gave out I replaced it with a Broilmaster), but since Hobart got mixed into this thread I think a restoration of an N50 would...

Forum Members Only: Win Maverick Redi-Chek ET-733 Wireless BBQ & Meat Thermometer NIB

I retired in 2016 so this has sentimental value for me. Plus, it would replace my old, single-probe Maverick that itself replaced a Polder (remember those?) Thanks, Chris!

    My opus on tongs...

I have small hands. Also, these tongs are exquisite in their simplicity. After 30 years they are like a natural extension of my hand. They don't require me to exert any force against a spring. They are less likely to slip out of wet or greasy hands. They fit perfectly into the top of my vertical...
