Well, I am pretty sure I’m going to spring for a 22 inch wsm. My 18 inches is OLD. I want a smoker to finish the season using a smoker, and want to take my time restoring my old one. My question is: what will I notice positive/negative on making the switch. Obviously I will use more lump, but not a concern. I want to add a hinge mod. Anything else that might be a concern. I appreciate any input👍

There can be gaps between middle cooking section and the charcoal bowl, and gaps at the top left/right of the access door, both allowing air into the cooker that sometimes makes it hard to control temp or extinguish the fire after cooking. Some people install gaskets to fill these gaps. Some try the Cajun Bandit door, hoping for a better fit, but that's a hit or miss proposition...they don't always fit better than the stock door.

Yes, they tend to burn more fuel. Bigger oven = more fuel required. But they're fun to cook with, you can really jam a lot of meat in there!

Good luck!
