Stopped using newspaper - far too messy

Found some of the "chemical" firelighters very smokey and smelly.

Weber ones clean burning and seem OK but need to hunt for a good price.

Tried some of these wood wool firelighters, initially bought small pack from (Sainsburys) supermarket and liked them. Very clean, no residues, smell or smoke for lighting a chimney.
Just needs one to light a chimney of Weber Briqs. Waxed dipped so always light and don't get damp.

Found these online. That'll keep me going for next 100 chimneys. Not as cheap as cheapest source of Weber firelighters but perhaps more echo friendly. Edit: They are also Eco friendly

8-10 minutes burn time claimed. Not had a failure to light a chimney yet and only use one. £13.19 for 100 so not really cheap but I didn't want a 5 kilo box that would last me several years.
 
Pretty much the same price as the Weber starter cubes. 0.13p each. I'll keep an eye out for them.
 
They are very expensive Bob and they look like wax impregnated newspaper, you can see the print.

Interesting too when you look at the "frequently bought together" list - it includes Weber firelighters - only $3.98 for 24 and those Walden ones are $17.50 for 24 :confused:
 
Only problem is the ones you got over there don't seem available in the USA, at least I haven't found them. At this minute I am using one of the Weber cubes to start 2 pieces of KBB for a snake for bacon smoking. So many ways to start coal.
 
I'm leaning toward getting a "weed burner" or a long hosed plumber style torch.
The wood curl starters are kind of cool though.
