Some of the higher end end meat markets carry wood too, mostly small logs that need to be cut up though. There is a local place that sells fire wood and they carry red oak so you might want to try those places as well in your area.

This is for my so cal members. Where do you guys get wood to smoke? Currently I get it from HD or Lowes...
The only place I found Oak at is Meijer. But you're source is a steal of a deal. I'll keep that in mindI've been able to find a large variety of wood chunks at the local Home Depot, Lowes and Menards. Everything you can imagine except Oak for some reason.
Maybe not the best price, but looks like good wood and I admire his ambition.
Not from california but I buy from Fruita Woods in Colorado,I recently purchased some nice Cali red oak from Fruita, not to mention there peach and other selections.
