I figured this has been discussed before, but my search came up empty. In any case, as the title implies, I'm curious to see where you guys get wood for your smokes.
I have a local firewood supplier that separates their wood by species. Their stock rotates based on whatever they happen to cut down or remove. Living in NoVA, they always have oak, maple, and (bradford) pear. They usually have hickory and cherry.
Anyway, I have a firepit in my backyard and go camping 1-2X per year, so they are my "go to" for firewood.
I usually take 2-3 pieces of whatever firewood I select and pay a visit to my bandsaw to cut them into chunks.
Right now I have a good sized stash of cherry and hickory chunks. Hickory is always a favorite of mine. I never used cherry before until very recently. I find it a bit too mild for my taste. I'll probably go back to maple or oak as my 'mild' wood, especially since its goes so well with chicken- which I frequently smoke.
