Well it seemed like a great idea last night

Normally when I am absent from here for most of the day it's because I am on projects. Today? Something different. Last night had a taste for a piece of salmon. So got a piece at local Schnuks AKA Schmuks. Well today I am battling food poisoning big time. Wife went to the store to tell manager. The fish smelled ok or I would not have cooked it. So I think it may have been contaminated. Anyway been praying to porcelain goddess all day. No fun

So sorry to hear you are sick. How about drinking a hot cup of tea with a few slices of fresh ginger? Do a search and you will find out that it will help you. ;)

Sorry to hear Larry. Guessing you'll have a new name for Schnuks now.
Oh I've had a name for them for a long time. Really dislike the store. And insult to injury. Wife stopped in to speak to the manager. Manager told her I was not the only one. Plus she said someone got sick off the chicken they sell. I have a feeling there was some gross X contamination due to careless handling. Anyway as of this AM feeling slightly better. Very weak but better except now (not to be too graphic) what was coming out the top yesterday is now on the "bottom". UGH. Another reason I think X contamination is that with chicken you need to cook to 165 or even a little more. Salmon you can cook to 135 safely which I did. But, if the salmon was X contaminated with chicken that 135 was not safe. About 7 or so years ago I got food poisoning from an avocado. Have not been able to eat it ever since. Now the thought of consuming salmon does not sit well with me. :(

Good to hear you're feeling better.

I also am not a Schnucks lover. Unfortunately we have little competition in the St Louis area. We have Aldi, Walmart and Dierbergs (a small local chain that is as expensive as Schnucks, but better). Hey grocery chains, we need some competition.

I usually avoid those "fresh seafood" counters. It looks nice on ice, but I have no idea how long it has been there, how handled and if it was previously frozen. My go to salmon is the frozen packs that Costco sells. Never had your problem with them.

Meijer’s, Harding’s (local”ish”) Aldi, D&W(best fish available usually), Walmart, that’s pretty the run of stuff around here. I usually frequent Meijer’s, Harding’s and D&W (when I want decent fish) .

If I can smell it before I see it I avoid it.
It smelled just fine. So in the case of what I think happened (cross contamination) smell would not be an indicator. But, yeah, it seems like one chain will come into an area like this and suddenly it's a near monopoly. One place I've gotten better from is Sam's. It's from Norway, vacuum sealed there and comes straight here.

That's why I avoid certain stores. If I can smell the fresh fish counter before I see it, how fresh is it?

Schnucks is a St. Louis based grocery store. I've never gotten sick off of anything I've purchased there. There are about 70 locations, most of them around St. Louis but I've seen some much farther away (like the one that got Larry sick). Maybe the ones further away aren't managed as well as the ones closer to St. Louis.

Oh, I have never had problems with products from Schnucks. It is just that with the exit of Kroger and later National supermarkets, they were left with a near monopoly here.

Well as of this AM I seem to be on the mend. Able to drink some coffee, not sure about breakfast yet. Maybe just some dry toast with jam and see how that stays in. Tellin ya, if you never had food poisoning, you haven't lived LOL. If it wasn't so awful I guess it would be funny
