Weber redhead in California

Hello from Sacramento, California. For years I have come to this site to read advice for keeping my inherited Weber Redhead Genesis 1000 grilling. I am in the begining process of re-restoring it now and can't wait to get back grilling on it before passing it on to my adult son in the future (this would be it's third generation in our family since the mid 1980's).
I'm handy but work in education as a trade so wish me lots of luck!

We are here to help and taking it one step at a time you should have no problems at all.

Welcome Kelly! I just joined a month ago and the people on this forum have been really nice with lots of comprehensive help. Don't be shy about asking any sort of questions on the threads. Also, I have found the search tool really helpful. Posting photos with questions is always welcome. I just finished my first Weber - a Silver B that I really enjoyed and could not have done it without the help of this group. Enjoy your Genesis 1000 redhead! I think that's my favorite and someday I hope to have one. Here is a good link to start on the forum with restoration, maybe you have already seen it:

Thank you Val!

Welcome Kelly. So good that you finally pulled the trigger and joined, and thank you for encouraging the next generation to appreciate things not just because they are new.

One problem with using a 1000 frame to replace one from a 1 is that the newer won't have the extensions to the right of the control panel which support the unique wire tray. It can easily be fixed with parts from an 02-03 Silver B found under the left hand tray, on even in the leg frames. They must be cut down to suit your needed length and simply bolted into place in the new frame. Here is one I did in a 1000 I sold earlier this summer:IMG_1348.jpg
