Weber Q model variations...

I have located an older style Weber Q and wanted to use it with the take-down cart, however, its legs are different. Has anybody successfully modfied the legs on one of these to use with the newer cart? It is 2008 but it like new condition Q 120? Can I transfer the new-style legs from a 2017 Q 1400 to the older Q 120 or will there be some snafus? My plans are to actually acquire an additional 2200 that I can use with the cart as well (that came with the Q 1400. Maybe I will just try it and report back... Lastly, is it worth upgrading to the stainless grates?

The bar grates absolutely no. The Q is made to work like a cross between a griddle and a grill. The bar grates only (sometimes) have a "heat shield or grease deflector) but it does nothing to absorb and distribute the heat. A Q is a VERY different animal than say a Genesis. Q relies on contact heat more than radiant
As for your other question. I have no clue. Honestly as noted elsewhere on this thread, there are FAR better aftermarket alternatives for them than what Weber offers

Maybe you could post pictures of the legs you mention. I did not know that they had changed the legs so much that the older ones won't fit in a current cart.

As to grates, I agree with Larry about stainless rods. Myself, I would try to find a set of aftermarket cast iron that someone here has had success with. You need to make sure about compatibility, because older Qs had a one-piece grate. Newer grates that are two-piece, will not work unless you also obtain special clips to hold them up.

Here is one on Amazon that is the one-piece design that I believe you need. Not cheap and I wish there were more reviews. I do like the matte cast iron way better than the smooth finish found on most Weber replacements:

From time to time, you may be able to find a FLAT stainless grate. In a quick search, I couldn't find any domestic sources. Keep looking if you want this. @LMichaels has a set and I believe @Bruce does as well. They seem to like them very well. Myself, I might stick with the cast iron, knowing, though, that it is harder to maintain and won't last as long.

Amazon sells an aftermarket cast iron I swear is every bit as good if not better than the OEM CI Weber grates and about 1/2 the cost. I bought 2 sets. Was using them very happily until I found the stainless ones Bruce and I bough

I think the older Q grills will not fit the newer versions of their fold up stands.

Got this for my Char Q and it works with my older Q100 too!

Weber did change the base of the Q models a while ago. Along with that they introduced an "improved" folding cart to go along with it. The new cart looks pretty decent but does not fit older Q grills. I have never looked closely enough to determine what was changed on the base. Since I have my Q320 which uses it's own cart not made for anything else and I'm happy with it. So I've not shopped around "looking" at changes. The 320 serves my needs very well. So no need to look elsewhere

The legs on the newer Q grills are rounded down to the feet, where the older ones slanted down.

These photos show the difference. Although they are both electric Qs, the legs are the same on corresponding gas models of the same era.

The one on the left is the older version and the one on the right is the newer generation. THey are both on the OLD style stand, but the new stands are only designed for the newer leg style.

Look at the location of the legs of the Q's on the cart relative to the location of the cart's oval handle on the left side.

Keep in mind that one a Q2400 and one is a Q140. They are different sized grills, so the legs naturally fit into different slots. I just had photos of them on the carts, that is the only reason I show them on the cart.
