Hey Guys Its been a while since I posted on here. The Weber addiction is alive and well and I seem to accumulate a lot of them.
I recently picked up a Genesis E-310 and in the pics it looked like it was a black hood and cabinet doors and in decent condition. However when I arrived I found it was green. Still happy with it, I opened the cabinet doors to find that the bottom tray was eaten with rust to a point where there was no restoring it, and a new part would have to be bought or fabricated. These newer carts are shocking build quality compared to my Genesis Platinum C that I restored and still have. The cook box and lid are of course still great. I did a full strip down amd clean and had to paint the whole frame. So it was rust treated and primer sprayed. Then that's where the issue arose, what colour will match the original? Well after much searching, I found the answer. Massey Ferguson Stoneleigh grey! Its a slight shade off the original, but so close its hard to tell the difference. I was delighted. So I sprayed the frame and panels and she came out good. As it was green amd I have an obesession with having all my grills matching in colour, I decided to just get her going and looking smart and flip it. So after a spray of cart and clean up of the cookbox, I was just left with the dilemma of what to use for the bottom tray. In the end I bought some composite decking in grey to put in there and I think it worked out great and is a good solution. I added some stainless flavoriser bars and cleaned up the cast iron grates and flipped the grill. New owner loves it too. Hopefully the paint colour tip amd the decking board bottom tray idea might help.someone else with one of these rust buckets. I decided while doing it that I'll never part with my Platinum. Its just perfect in every way.
