Weber Disappointment

Kaz, they sent me an order confirmation so hopefully they are on their way, I will let you know when I receive them.

FYI I received the 3 Ignitors today from Grill Parts .com and still waiting on the lower cooking grates from Weber........

Rob I read your story and had a similar experience trying to buy a pair of rotisserie forks. Could not buy them without buying the entire kit. Someone here referred me to Replacement parts.com where I got them no problem. I guess they don't want to be bothered with small order items which may cost more to process than the profit they generate. Sign of the times :(

Kaz, I received the 2014 model 22.5 lower cooking grate with handles and it sure is nice compared to trying to remove a whole rack of food with no handles. I assume the 18.5 will arrive soon and must have been shipped separate.

I would crack a beer and realize in the great scheme it could be a lot worse.
Very true, you could be out of beer.:(

It would be good to try to bring this to upper managements attention somehow. The "kits only" policy sounds like one of those good ideas that don't quite work in practice to me, they may be willing to change if they find out customers aren't happy with it. It's entirely possible that customers are just going aftermarket without saying anything and Weber doesn't realize there's an issue.

At the very least they should offer a kit containing only the minimum parts required to replace parts that have limited lifespans.

Seen that thread after replying to this one and had the same thought you did, sounds like bean counters for sure. It's a shame but what are you gonna do.

Bottom line is $money$ is $money$ and being forced to deal with 3rd party to get parts is cutting Weber's bottom line and is reducing their profit, which all business need to stay in business. Sometime Big Business's get so big they fail, ...........Woolworths, Pontiac, Eckerds,, etc.

FYI I just used my new 22.5 lower cooking grate today to do 6 boneless turkey breasts for gifts, I am just starting and do about 30 each year. I removed original lower rack and noticed the newer rack with handles is lighter and the wire size is smaller in diameter. So even though it probably won't make a difference in the life of rack since I have never had one break or wear out they definitely cut costs on it and made it cheaper. I still have not received the 18.5 lower cooking grate for 2014 with handles, I guess they ship parts separate or when they are in stock........

so, Rob... you're saying Weber is Woolworths???????

Thanks for input Jim, and No I do not consider them like Woolworths to the extent that they are still in business but they are for sure in the situation that after the family sale to corporate, etc. that they need to consider that they can for sure fail and one day we would be collecting grills no longer made. It is crazy as a business man to think they will ALWAYS be around and producing. FYI Woolworths was in the $Billions$ much more than Weber could dream of.........and went bankrupt

whatever the case may be, Weber is only a business that specializes in one product.... businesses like Woolworth are/were convenient stores...? no??

still wondering where the photos are in this thread that merits a place in the Photo Gallery.

and, I apologize.

I am just sharing my recent experiences with Weber Customer Service AND Parts Department. Obviously I am a HUGE Weber Fan and Advocate since owning all that I do (Please see Signature Below) But facts are facts. They are driving business away in the parts department and sales that other business's are happily to scoop up.

Rob I think posts like this benefit all of us because we do know through experience Weber does listen...sometimes.

Here are some examples; I built a smoke rack albeit an idea I took from Smoke EZ, Jim Lamp followed, lots of traffic on those posts and now Weber has a smoke rack. Never before! Same as the handles on the lower grates. There have been posts by myself and others who have had issues with the lower grates causing injury. Now there are handles. The grommet for the new WSM is another example. These are all topics of threads here and maybe on other sites too. In my humble opinion airing issues regarding the present attitude or a change in attitude of a company like Weber can't hurt after all... we are the Customer!
Good post, glad you initiated it :)

Thank you Gary
I do appreciate your positive feedback. Just an FYI I JUST received today the last part of my order from Weber the 2014 model lower cooking grate for my old 18.5 and again with comparison to the original rack it is quite lighter in weight and the wire diameter is much smaller. They have reduced the cost "for them" and made it cheaper, ....but I doubt it will affect the life of it since I have never had a rack break or wear out.
