Weber 9930 SS Grates

In the new year I am looking to investigate options of getting some 9930
Grates made by a fabricator. I am aware there are other options on Amazon
That work just fine so looking to understand if there is a market and what price
Would a set of 2 could fetch.

Any feedback welcomed.

Ooof. I made myself a set of grates out of 304 stock a couple of months back. In my quantities, quite expensive just for the steel. A friend of mine is contemplating having me build a set of grates for a mutual friend (we've known each other for 40+ years) As soon as I started tallying up the steel costs, he said he's gotta think about that. I'd suspect that I'd be in over $200 in steel alone easily to weld up a pair of those.

As I understand, they are the same size per section as those that fit the Genesis Silver B and 1000 grills. In that case, I would keep in mind that you can buy a set of 9MM 304 SS solid rod grates from Amazon at $129 including shipping.

If you can find a local guy to make them for less, then great. But if you are looking to maybe market them, you will have to figure in the cost of shipping as well. I just don't think you will have much luck finding a source unless they already have a big stock of 9MM solid rod that they purchased several years ago before the prices went way up.

But, one recommendation I would make if/when you find someone to make them is to leave the middle cross member out. It will not only save a little cost, but will make them easier to use.

Each grate will use over 25 feet of SS rod if you go with the normal 16 rods per grate half. So basically a little more than 50 total feet for a full set of grates. That will give you an idea of how much a grate will cost to produce (not including labor or shipping) if you can price the rod by the foot.

I am a big fan of the 9930s. I have a few sets and would like more if I can get a decent price. I also have a few sets of the QuliMetal which are a nice alternative at a much lower cost. This is the last set of 9930s I purchased from a private seller on eBay for $185 including tax and shipping. I haven't found any for near this price since. I talked to Dave Santana AKA RCPlanebuyer about it and he said he is trying to start making his grates again and that his prices would be similar to what I paid for my last set of 9930. One of the main reasons I love these Genesis x000 grills besides the beautiful character is that I can build a grill that will out last me. So highest quality grates and flavorizer bars are important to me.

Another thought is to make them Weber crafted friendly (one big one small)so they would cater for those fanboys. This would work for all I think!?

Weber make the 9mm grates for some of the dealer specials like Ace Hardware I believe, anyone know if they can be bought from Weber and if so what price?

Weber sells these 9mm stainless grates on their website for $217.99:

They are NOT Weber Crafted friendly, being an even 50/50 split, but they do fit the 2022 and 2024 Genesis models.

They are somewhat better finished than the QuliMetal ones, but once you’ve used them…. 🤷‍♂️

I unfortunately have not yet had the pleasure of handling Dave Santana’s grates.

My Genesis SPX 435 smart Grill came with stainless grates and after 1 year they were Rusty and pitted. Also have owned several Genesis ii grills and other Genesis grills with SS with same results. I've pulled sets of 9930s out of 30-year-old Summit grills looking nasty and they cleaned up like brand new. Big difference between quality 304 SS and cheap SS that they use in Genesis grills. I would not recommend buying Weber Genesis SS grates.

10-4 thanks

Josh, were your Genesis stainless grates 7mm or 9mm? Most of the Genesis other than the Indigo Ace ones come with 7mm grates.

The 7mm ones are garbage; I’ve owned two sets of them.

I haven’t had a chance to put the 9mm ones through the wringer, but if they’re not 304…. I don’t have high expectations.

I don't think I've had 9mm Weber brand Genesis grates. Maybe there is a chance they are quality 304 SS. I wouldn't bet on it but it's definitely possible. For that price they should be Quality.

Give them the magnet test and you will probably know for sure. If they aren't magnetic they are 304. If they are just barley magnetic they may be 304. If the are heavily magnetic they are not 304.

The old Weber Genesis x000 stamped SS grates are quality 304

The grates (and 2022 Genesis) are at our other place, but I’ll do my best to remember to give the magnet test a go the next time I’m there and report back. :)
