Water Pan Cover - Does this work as well as it seems?

Cleaning out the water pan is a drag, even if you put foil on it. If you have a 22 WSM, you go through lots of foil as well. I recently stumbled across this pizza pan like device on Amazon. It appears that you fill your water pan normally and place this on the top.

I can see that cleaning this up would be much easier. Anyone have any experience with this?

I have one on my 18, I cover the it with foil and run it with no water. I still use foil but not nearly as much as when I lined the water pan. Works like a charm.

Water only serves a purpose if allowed to evaporate. Evaporation helps keep cooker temp under control and creates a moist cooking environment that many find advantageous. To the extent these pan toppers prevent evaporation, they defeated the reason for using water. I think they make more sense for those not cooking with water in the pan.

Wouldn't the water still boil? Like a pot of water on the stove with a lid on?

So could the lidded water bowl boil over and douse the fire?

Seems like the lid would make the most sense with a pan filled with sand (heat sink). Otherwise, just use the lid without the bowl.

Seems kind of a waste to me. I just wrap my bowl in aluminum foil then cover the top with another piece of foil making a dip in the middle. Catches all the drippings and when I'm done I crumble it up and throw it away. Cheap and easy.
