Wanted: Left side lid cap for 2000-2002 Weber Gold/Platinum series

Hi everyone! Original owner here and looking to replace due to a broken hinge. This has a specific handle attachment and it's my understanding that it will only work for the 2000-2002 years. See pics. Anyone have one of these?

That might be a tough one Chris. I hope someone can come through for you. If not, you may want to consider getting another lid and swapping both end caps and handle on to your green lid.

I am not sure, but any Genesis Silver B lid might fit that grill. You could swap in a whole new lid. The later 2004 and up Silver/Gold B/C grills had that curved lid. Possibly, they end caps are the same....I am not sure.

I think any lid for a three burner genesis from 1985 to 2005/6? will fit, but the end caps on the 2000 to 2002 gold seem to be rare.

I would expect @Chris-NV wants to keep the green lid, and I think his options are: :

  1. Find a LH side end cap fom a 2000 to 2002 Gold
  2. Change both end caps to a 2003+ Gold style, which means changing the handle also to a round SS handle
  3. Change both end caps to a Genesis x0000 or Silver B/C style, which also means changing the handle.

Option 2 might be a good comprise. The newer Gold end caps taper in like the 2000/2002 version so any fading or scratches on the green enamel hood would likely line up. At some point the thermometer moved from the RH cap to the center of the hood, but I don't 'recall the exact year.

you might be able to find a donor gold in rough shape just for the end caps.

Good luck on your search.

edit: here's a pic for option 2 There is one FS near me for $50 ( not this pic )

I think that @Jeff MA covered this and that the lid shape is unique to this line of grills. I might be wrong but let me do some digging.

EDIT: I found a comparison with the lid from a 5000 but that's not much help. Here's his resto thread, which might be of interest.

Thanks guys... yep, I would love to keep it OEM with the original caps. It's funny as I ventured into the weber online rabbit hole, I found TONS of FB grills being offered for free or at redicules prices... I've now got 6 staged and ready for renovation and resale! My wife is "very" impressed with the whole adventure... LOL.

Funny... you and I texted on FB about the lid you had and unfortunately put in the recycle bin prior to me connecting with you. I'm still optimistic that one will come up.

Indeed... that handle/lid shape is very specific for these years. I'm kicking myself for not asking for a "warranty" when this happened back in 2003 (I'm sure Weber would've still had these in stock!).

This grill has been posted about 20 miles from me here in NY for a bit and it can probably be had for a bargain by now. I couldn't cover my time and expenses for anything less than about $75 to gather it and ship an end cap to NV, though. I doubt that it's worth that kind of investment.

Looks like a good resto candidate for you Tom.

On most occasions, I'd say you're right but I'm sitting on way too much inventory at the moment (20+ by last count). I'd grab the lower rack, control panel, and maybe the side burner off this one depending upon it's condition and that would be it for me. It would still pain me greatly to toss the side tables and swing-up shelves but I've already got boxes of them taking up space, too. Could this mean that I'm finally breaking through the clutches of my Weberitis?

@Chris-NV If you decide you want one with the round SS handle, you'll need both end caps, and the handle.

I can keep my eyes open for one too, if that's the direction you want to go.

I'm way behind packing things up for shipping and have a lid that still needs to get sent.

At least you're planning to eventually resell them. When I get one I usually have no intention of parting with it.

So you have been selling parts? Great! Let me put my order in for a nice skyline lid now to beat your Christmas rush.

I'm "giving away"an SS gold center section of a lid, but finding a box that won't get it crushed in transit has been a challenge.

Your order for a skyline lid, in plum crazy purple, is on back order. estimated ship date is Neveruary, 32nd. 20sumthingsumthin.

Yeah, I can see the challenge with shipping the lid without having specialized packing materials. Backorder? I should have ordered earlier!

Just for curiosity, have you called Weber to ask?

Thanks Tom... appreciate you! If I did go this route, I'd need both sides and the round handle too.
