This time it is about cooking magazine subscriptions. I was foolish enough to take out 2 years at a time on 3 cooking magazines. BUT, they still bug the daylights out of me by sending me renewal cr**. I haven't done anything about this yet (except tear them to shreds lol), but I am thinking about telling them if they don't stop this, I will cancel my subscription.

Anyone else ever have this problem and did you do anything about it?

Very common problem. I have never complained about it. I check the subscription expire date on the letter they send and if it's more than six months in the future, I ignore the resubscribe notice. They will send another and another the closer you get to actual expiration.

As long as we're griping about magazine subscriptions, my gripe is with the ones that put you on an auto-renew plan and you have to log into an obscure website to turn off that option (yes, I'm looking at YOU, Christopher Kimball!). Cook's Illustrated, America's Test Kitchen, and Cook's Country all did the same under Kimball's previous leadership, I think they're still the same now.

Hi Chris, I thought you had to agree to the auto-renew plan first? If they try that with any I subscribe to, they are asking for trouble. lol

After renewing my NRA membership for 5 years I still get letters asking me to extend every year. Same goes with other organizations I belong to. The all find their place in the circular file, along with the other junk mail. Thinking it's pretty much SOP for corporate America.

A number of years ago we started getting magazines addressed to my niece. There must have been five or six different ones. She swore she never signed up for them. The only thing we could figure was she took some classes at the local community college and either she signed up for them without realizing or they were considered a free benefit. We got kind of perturbed about having to deal with the magazines. I don't recall getting a lot of renewal notices. I think the magazines have all stopped now.

I get the same thing for our cat's medicine our Vet has us order online. We get 2 months at a time. One week after we receive our order we get a 'time to reorder' email.

Barb and I both subscribe to quit a few magazines from cooking to car magazines we keep a list of when we subscribe and for how long. Yes we get constant notices for renewal and if it's not time than we trash it. If it runs out and I get the usual notices that we need to pay up or they will cancel, I ignore them and they eventually get the message.
We never us a credit card or sign up for auto renewal we always pay by check.
It's certainly a PITA but I do enjoy the magazines.

I think paying by check, AKA the old fashioned way, is somewhat better than them having your credit card on file, yes!
