Ugly (but tasty) Thanksgiving

Things got a little hot under the hood, that and a surplus of butter, provided for the ugly bird award

Started off good

I anticipated it would take 3 hours, but I was an hour off, it was pretty much done in two hours

We just had the breast meat for Thanksgiving, this morning I cut the rest of it up, and I'm looking forward to turkey sandwiches

I’ve had sun tans like those turkey legs at ATT Park. My legs get burnt wearing shorts in September because it’s still hot during day games.

That bird looks yummy. Need a spinner for the WSK.

You're not alone here. I had a 14 lb turkey, and was figuring on 3 hours as well, but our turkey was looking done around 2 hours.
Because I've pulled things off a bit prematurely in the past, I went to 2.5 hours just to be sure.

Then I found this Weber webpage "How to Rotisserie a Turkey" that indicates 2 to 2.25 hours for a 14 lb bird is pretty typical.

Our best turkey was the worst nightmare of a cook.
It was a home raised monster of a bird mainly raised on table scraps.

It was 30 some odd years ago and I still remember the hassle it took to pluck that darn thing.
Plucking turkey’s is no fun and this one was the worst.

It would not fit in a kettle and wouldn’t fit into the turkey pan but we used one anyway and it barely fit into the oven.
It was like Cinderellas fat sister trying to slip into her little shoe.
It weighted in at 56 lbs dressed and smoked out the house with its fat dripping in the oven so bad we had to set up numerous fans to get the smoke out of the house.

It was a total mess but it tasted better than any Turkey I’ve had.
I’m not really a fan of white meat but it was juicier than any I’ve had.

Totally ruined the kitchen.
I will never raise a Turkey again.
