Troubleshooting - no power

Finished my soldering (newbie!) and tried to get everything powered on.

Raspberry Pi has openwrt with heatermeter software on it. I can successfully boot the Pi by itself, and open the heatermeter web interface.

Upon connecting the heatermeter 4.1 board to the Pi, and plugging in the 5V usb power, I get nothing...

No power, no lights anywhere.

I'm fairly new to electronics, and can't quite figure out where to start with a multimeter to determine where my problem is.

Any suggestions?

Here are pics of the heatermeter board:

Thanks!

What version board do you have? The 4.1.3 boards had a fatal flaw where one leg of the DC/DC converter was touching the ground plain, that shorts the board out completely. If you have that version of the board you need to cut a small piece of trace, it's easy enough to do. There is a thread about it here in the forum with more details...

Looks like your solder joints need to be reheated to let the solder flow. Some may need solder added to them, the holes should be completely filled with solder and the solder should look shiny after it cools.
You need to look at both side on the solder joints to make sure the solder flowed to the back side of the board making connections on both sides.

Here is the link discussing the short Ralph talked about

Don't plug the HM into the Rpi until you can get the HM running. I know you wont get the Atmega chip programmed and you wont see anything on the LCD, that's ok though as long as nothing is running. Also, you said you used the USB connector to power. Don't have both the USB and the power on the HM plugged in at the same time and you really should not use the USB power at all when you use it with the HM as it wont give you the 12volts for the blower.
