Traeger at Costco

Took a quick look at this Traeger which they were displaying close to the entrance at Costco today. Very unimpressive. The lid was light and flimsy. Grates were similar to what's on my Nexgrill Oakford... Overpriced at $650. Ridiculous at $750.
First time I've seen a pellet grill in Costco though.

MN Costco outlets have been displaying Traegers for a few years.

Traeger really took a nose dive when the founders sold out to vulture capitalists who took out a lot of cash, and really cheapened the product (IMO.)
I've seen several models at Ace that looked solid but they were more expensive. I know there's better quality and value pellet grills out there than this one at this price point.

Yeah they sell that Traeger along with a few others at our Costco. And I looked at that one thinking it was maybe a "loss leader" or something. $750?! They gotta be kidding

Luckily, my Traeger was manufactured in January 2013, just over a year before Trilantic Capital Partners bought the company Joe Traeger had originally sold in 2006. They still made a stout grill then, even though some of the manufacturing was done in China. Trilantic put dollars above quality which dug Traeger into a deep hole. In order to solve the bad PR they introduced an entire new line of grills a few years back. Negative feedback decreased a lot with the new product line, while the prices increased considerably. IMO, they're overpriced and getting their a$$es kicked, both in price and quality by several other brands, including Oklahoma Grills and Pit Boss, both owned by the company that employs both Joe Traeger and his son Brian.

I love my Traeger and it will likely outlast me. If it doesn't, you can bet it won't be replaced with another Traeger.
