Tofu, It's what's for Dinner

So this is a take off from a Raichlin cook I saw recently. Yes I can go vegetarian once in awhile. As long as it does not become a habit.
This was actually very good and will definetly do it again for my non-meat eating guests.

So organic extra firm tofu, cut into steak sizes, basically quartered. Put in paper towels top and bottom with a weight to dry them further. Incredible the amount of water that comes out even after being drained.

Everything lined up diced and spliced, fresh garlic, fresh ginger, scallion, Jalepeno pepper and Hoisin Sauce for the marinade. Plus all the items for the vegetable side dish in the Ci. Everything being made on the Genesis

Side dish on the side burner first, will be put into Genesis after an initial light cook down

The ingredients for the sauce minus the Hoisin which is added in a little bit, I stacked my chili powder and salt on top

Sterling tofu. Tofu is good; the fresher the better. It's the sham burgers and not dogs made with it I can't stand.

Bill, sorry, but if tofu is what's for dinner, i'll have ten or more of these. ▼

tried tofu more than I need to,.... rather eet liver (which is a toss up)

Looks very good!!! I'm not much of a fan of tofu, I can handle it if it is added to stuff like stirfrys or in soups but don't care for it much if its the main course.

Normally I would agree with you guys. And it is not my normal dish as you all know. But once in awhile it is a good dish. Especially if you have non meat eaters in your guest list. I can tell you as a died in the wool meat eater it is actually very good like this. Tofu is basically a base with no real flavor but if you cook it like this it assumes what ever flavors you give it. This was spicy, robust and quite tasty thanks to the sauce added.

I have never tried Tofu so can't say whether I would eat it or not. Your plating looks
awesome and with the ingredients used I would venture to say very delicious!

Rolf I want the garlic ginger etc to cook up a little in the EVOO before I add the Hoisin, once I add the Hoisin I am lowering the heat to a slow simmer.

i'd eat that. looks good. I once lost a bet with my wife and had to go Vegan for a month. me in my infinite wisdom chose the month of July thinking it would be the hottest, steamiest month of the year as her half of the bet was to clean the yard and mow (we have 3 dogs). Well, needless to say, I lost the bet and was a vegan for month. Little did I know that July of 2011 had 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. The first time in 850 years this little calendar miracle takes place so basically I had 5 weekends and that included 4th of July!

Bill; looks great! Creative cook and I'll bet it tasted great.

Chris; good story!! I have to be careful about betting with my wife.... she's put a few over on me in our 26 years of blissful marriage. :)

Old Brown Dog!! Excellent choice of NH beer, BIll!! After cleaning my glasses to make sure what I was reading I have to admit your meal looks tempting. Pass a plate over, I'll dig in!!
