Tips for getting grates super clean

You guys have any tips for getting grill grates clean? Getting a grill ready to sell and want to shine it up as best I can.

Cup brush on angle grinder doesn’t work too well!

Have you tried oven cleaner? let them set for 10-20 minutes and then clean. Make sure you wear rubber gloves.

Ill give that a shot. Maybe try to soak it in oven cleaner somehow.

Lots of YouTube videos recommended scraping with an onion, but I don't think that'd work.

I guess I could always break out the Dremel, not sure I want to put that much effort into it though.

I believe oven cleaner in garbage bag is step 1.

Dishwasher helps too. I put rib racks i....they come out clean.

garbage bag is an excellent tip! I’ll try that. And wife is out of town this weekend so I can try the dishwasher too.
Appreciate the suggestions

I've never done this, but some people with offset stick burners use power washers. Course, those grates are a lot larger.

I have a tub we soak grates in immediately after the cook. Then go back later and scrub them with scouring pad, then into the dishwasher.

Somebody somewhere also suggested a drip/catch pan that's normally placed under a water heater, being large enough to hold the grates and fairly shallow.
That's what Barb and I use and it works great. not having a utility sink saves a lot of wear and tear on the kitchen sink.

Don't put them in the dishwasher, made that mistake, stuff that did come off stuck the float so it wouldn't fill then it tripped the temp sensor, had to pull it out 2 times, smh on stuff I have done. oven need cleaning? put them in there but your regular racks my need polished afterwards to make them slide again, there again I lean for my mistakes or others once in a blue moon.

Wow, I guess some of you clean your grates a lot. I get doing it to sell the grill like the OP was saying, but I haven't deep cleaned a grill grate in 20 years. Lol. Heat up grill, brush when hot. That's all I do normally. Maybe I'm the weirdo.

As for a full deep cleaning, a powerwasher seems to me like the best way to do it. Just my guess, though.

I've had my grates marinating in a garbage bag with oven clean for about a day now. Going to take them out today and blast with pressure washer, then call it a day. Should get them clean enough for pictures when I go to list it.

And Mike, I'm like you, I just rotate the dirty side of my grates to the charcoal hot side of the grill, let it burn off then few swipes with grill brush.

I'm only particular with the WSM grates, because they don't get hot enough to just brush. I rarely clean my Kettle grates. And I only brush the stickburner grates after its initially heated up.
