The Peanut Farmer is Gone

Many people think of Jimmy Carter as a simple peanut farmer. However, he was studying nuclear reactor operation under (then Captain) Rickover during the early 1950's with the intent to serve aboard the USN Sea Wolf, the US's second nuclear submarine. His career took a turn when his father died and Jimmy left the Navy to return to Plains, GA, and took over operation of his family's peanut farm. Even then, Jimmy Carter was much more than a "simple peanut farmer".

I don’t have anything nice to say about his presidential achievements.
That said I don’t think anyone comes close to his work as an elder statesman.
He personally inspired thousands of people and church groups to go out and make a difference.

I personally have met quite a few busses of young adults going into Mexico to build houses.
These volunteers can build a decent house in 2 days that were nicer than most local dwellings.

I think the world could use a few more like Jimmy.
He was truly one of the good guys.

I can only say that he must truly be happy to have lived ling enough to see that he had given up the "Belt."

No doubt, outside of the realm of politics he and Rosalyn were tremendous people who gave back to their community, the country, and the world as a whole.
