Temp range on 18.5 WSM?

Hi,

I'm trying to find out the temperature range of the 18.5 WSM.

By that, I mean (roughly) the lowest temperature to the highest temperature you can get to run consistently on the 18.5 using Kingsford blue. By consistently, I mean for a matter of hours.

I did a search for "temperature range" here and I got a million suggested ranges for individual meats, but that's not what I'm looking for.

I'm simply trying to find out how low you can get the 18.5 to run and how high you can get it to run consistently for a time at these low and high temperatures.

I tried other key words too but never found an answer. Believe me, I tried.

Believe me, you can get it as hot as you want with a full ring of lit charcoal, and no water pan. On the other end, you'll also find some setups for cold smoking, if that is what you're looking for.

That's been my experience, also.

Keep on smokin',

My 18.5 hit 425 when I did no water pan direct chicken just before I removed the chicken. I let it burn afterwards to see how long it would stay there. It dropped to 400 and stayed there for a least two hours before I quit looking.

I've ran mine around 150-160 for several hours while smoking bacon, using the snake method.

I dry jerky and bacon at ~100*F doing the same thing.

Last night I was hanging chickens in the ~350(s)*F with one chimney of unlit and one of lit.

If you move the fire up to the lower cooking grate you can get higher I am sure. Like a Kettle at that point.
