Sunday Night Shave

I'm not a particularly hirsute individual so I can get by with random shaves throughout the the week. A few buzzes here and there with the electric and the occasional blade touchup in the shower and I'm about as presentable as I need to be.

But Sunday night is different. The weekend's wrapping up and there's usually nothing going on, so that's when I set aside some me time. After a good wash I lather up with Edge and reach for the 40+ year old Atra - I don't know who those 2 clowns in the current Gillette commercials are but back in my day we were grateful for a double blade and we knew how to use them! No rush, no hurry...leisurely, mirror-affirmed strokes with a firm yet gentle hand yield serious, blood-free smoothness every time. Then a good rinse followed by some brisk toweling and it's like I've kicked more than a few years to the curb.

Y'know, at this point I was really tempted to write, "And then I move on to my face...";)

I have always been a blade man. I agree with the old razors being more than adequate. I liked the 2 and 3 bladers. What is irritating is every couple years you have to upgrade because you can no longer find blades for your handle. I have several old handles I need to toss because I no longer know what fits them. These multi blade razors are a joke. Why do we need 5 blades? I spend more time trying to rinse the hair from between the blades than shaving. Edge shaving cream on the other hand was a game changer.

The thing is, “Who in blazes is that old fart staring back at me!” When I look in the mirror?
I’ve gone back to a brush and soap from time to time, the end result IS worth the extra effort. When I don’t go that route, I’ve been using Cremo and the brush. If I don’t have time I still use Barbasol.

Right? Getting to be I'm afraid to see that person staring back.

We are going to a friend’s for dinner and I just scraped the fuzz, man, I’m getting old!

Mike, I’ve used Edge before, it is a little different, get a can and experiment.
Just used Cremo sandalwood and the face feels pretty darned smooth! And, with a brush, it lathers up pretty well, not as much as Barbasol but, the results are pleasant.

I still use Mach 3 blades as I have the handles. They are available at Costco at a very good price, retired I only shave 3 times a week can get a few years out of the Costco pack.
