Stokerlog Version 6

Ok kids I setup my new Stoker tonight and connected to it's internal web server just fine.

So I thought I'd try the Stokerlog. I installed 6.7 with no errors. I set it to run as administrator in the Compatibility tab and ran the Stokerlog.exe.

I get nothing. I see that for about 10 seconds it runs in task manager.

This is a new laptop with the following:
Windows 7 SP1 x64
No A/V currently as this is a test machine.
.Net 4 is installed.

So what am I missing.

Amir that is correct. I get no GUI. I see that the stokerlog.exe process runs in Task Manager for ~10-20 seconds and then closes.

I turned off User Access Control to see if that had any bearing and it did not.

My troubleshooting mojo must be off Amir.

Here is all I could find in the Event logs:

Mike, I have only seen generic versions of this problem where Windows loads some programs, but on others, apps hang on start up and don't show a UI. Tried to troubleshoot a PC at work and after many hours, gave up and re-installed Windows.

Stokerlog does very little on start-up. It simply reads the registry to load its old settings and then shows the UI. Little can go wrong in that code.

The other options is to re-download and install again. I recall one problem that was caused by that. It is a very log shot though.

Let me know if you make any progress on it.

Amir,

It looks to be an issue with Windows 7 SP1. That's my best guess at least. Installing it on the same setup w/out SP1 works just fine.

It works for me fine on both 32 and 64 bit Win7 with SP1.

Peter what version(s) of .Net do you have installed. This is driving me nuts not being able to use Stokerlog on this laptop as my only other laptop is running Ubuntu.

I'm running .Net 4.0.30319 on both machines.

Well I'm happy to say that after reinstalling Windows 7 (not SP1 yet) I'm able to run Stokerlog just fine.

I will try to upgrade to SP1 at a later date but for now, it's not that important. I want to get to work on Stokerlog...I do enough Windows admin work during the day...

Amir thank you for this software. It looks pretty awesome!

My pleasure Mike. Kind words like that have certainly paid for the development multiple times over!

Thanks to StokerLog I'm a better cook.

Next revision?
Ideas of new features.
Ramp by food temps.
Save a cook / graphic for future recall like to add notes etc.
Export of the data points for use in Excel.

Hi folks, I'm in the middle of my first smoke using a Stoker. StokerLog configured up painlessly and so far so good. I do have a couple of questions, though. Is there currently any way to get Stokerlog data off the LAN and onto the Internet? When I host a barbecue party, I'd love for my guests to be able to access a site showing the status of "dinner" that they can check on their computers or smartphones whilst enroute (yes, I have extremely geeky friends!). Speaking of Smartphones, is there any sort of Android control app that would let me see the status of my stoker and control it remotely?

Also, what of Twitter? I tried the SuperTweet.Net solution as shown in the Stoker manual. I'm getting no errors, but no tweets either. Is there any way of making this function work as of yet?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can set the Stoker for WAN access. On Rocksbbq website under documents explains how to do this except for issues when your ISP blocks PORT 80. There are work arounds dependent upon the router you have.

As for a SmartPhone app. A person on the BBQ brethren is developing one which should be released within the next month according to his last email to me. Until then, you can access the Stoker Status page with a SmartPhone web browser.

OK, great. I read through the document but it appears that, being on Verizon, they're blocking port 80. Any idea on how to do this on a Linksys WRT-54g?

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, but the fan doesnt seem to be reporting its status to Stokerlog. I've assigned the blower to the sensor so thats not the issue, any ideas?

Thanks!
