Spirit II E310 Mold Removal Help

I've got a spirit II e-310 that developed some lovely mold over our wet Seattle winter. Anyway, I've cleaned most of thr grill with a lot of elbow grease and still have a little to go but I've been unable to make anything on the inside of the cover to remove the mold circles. Can anyone recommend a way to remove them? Thanks!

Hmmmm, I am more familiar with the older lids. But I assume they are still porcelain coated. If so, I would first start with a bleach solution to not only try to remove it, but hopefully kill it as well. Then I would move on to a good cleaner such as Simple Green along with some #0000 steel wool. If that doesn't remove it, then you are probably looking at more of a defect than mold. Then, I would turn that sucker on and let it run for 20 minutes or so on full to burn off any remaining mold or cleaners.

Someone else might have better suggestions or thoughts as well.

Never tried this on a grill, but hydrogen peroxide is more effective in killing true mold whereas bleach does best with green algae slimy stuff. Both are not uncommon problems in South Florida.

I also agree with the razor and high heat for a good long stretch recommendations.

True Larry, but I think he also wants to get the discoloration off the inside of the lid. I am not sure "killing it" will do that.

Yeah not the first time I have seen it and once all burned up it disappears. First time I had it I panicked and was all "gotta clean it out" than I did an Alfred E Newman "What, Me Worry?" and just "lit her up" done end of story

Thanks guys! I tried fire. Twice. It did a good job on the rest of the grill (mold on grates and what not) but not such a good job on the lid.

I'll try the razor blade but it doesn't really seem like there is anything on it to scrape. Simple green and steel wool might be my best choice. It may indeed be a blemish at this point though.

I'll report back on any results.

Edit: should I be using the normal simplegreen or the grill aerosol stuff?

Thanks all. Used the simple green and some 0000 steel wool and a lot of elbow grease and it looks a ton better.

Now to clean up the outside......

So how well do people scrub the firebox out? I'm working on scraping mine with a razor scraper and it's getting the bulk out but obviously it's not as good as scrubbing would be. Thoughts?

Yup, Member's Mark fry, oven, and grill cleaner and SS wool....I usually don't do the wool though, I just spray the cleaner, soak, powerwash, rinse, repeat...at least twice. It's not completely clean but it's clean to the point where it's almost shiny again and minimal crud. You can get the cleaner on amazon if you don't have a Sam's Club membership

Kind of funny Sam's club must have tied up with Amazon I do not have a membership with them ordered it from Amazon. They came in a Sam's club box as my wife asked me what did I buy from Sam's Club so they must have shipped them directly to me. The only reason she asked me is that she knew we did not have a membership.

Yah, same here. I ordered through Amazon and received it in a Sam's Club box. So yah, maybe Sam's is partnering with Amazon to sell some of their stuff.

More than likely, what's happening is a seller with a Sam's Club membership account is buying from Sam's Club online and having it shipped directly to you.
