I have used Penzey's numerous times, but if anyone can recommend any other good sites online. Penzeys is good, but with shipping can be quite pricey. Thanks.

There are a ton of places however shipping is not inexpensive and honestly (buy in bulk) you really are not going to get a better deal between product and shipping... jmo

I have never ordered product from these places online, so I'm not sure of their shipping prices, but they both carry a wide (but not as wide as some of the already suggested sites) selection of very well priced spices and herbs.
One is in Saint Louis and the other is in Kansas City. I frequent both when able and stock up. Very good. Both family owned....I have always been pleased with quality and price.
Kind of region-specific to me, I know, but I hope this helps.

Kevin thanks for the heads up on world spice...totally forgot about that place and going to be in Seattle here real soon!

Usually yes. Definitely much fresher. There are some cheapy items - onion, garlic - that might be cheaper but the quality lacks. (Better quality also means that you can often use less of a given item if you wish.)

The other thing is that the supers and big box stores don't carry much of a range of items nor much depth. One sees 'black pepper' - and usually that's about it - rather than several from different sources (it makes a difference). And try finding sumac, Aleppo pepper, amchur, lemon thyme, lime juice powder or aji amarillo at a big box store or supermarket.
