SP-330 at Ace... Any info?

Ah perfect. Thanks for the info.

I also found the EP-330 which appears to be Genesis 330 with the painted outside, but stainless grates. Which I may prefer anyway and its 849. Woot. I think I found my new grill. Is the EP-330 made in the USA?

All the Spirits are made in China, all the Genesis and Summits are made in the USA. The 330 is tricky, because there's a Genesis and there's a Spirit. You can go to Weber.com and compare the two the give away is that the Genesis is double door and the Spirit is single door

Truth be known, until I found out the Spirit was made in China, I had no issues with it. I feel a bit let down that Weber made a grill in China, after all besides being a great BBQ, Weber's claim to fame was that it was made in the USA

Honestly I'm not at all impressed with my Genesis 330 stainless. I purchased the NG model in 2013 used it for a year and then moved. While I was in a rental house I didn't have NG hookups and weber wouldn't sell me a conversion kit so I cleaned and polished it with noxon 7 then put it in climate controlled storage for 2 years. I pulled it out 2 years later and it looks like crap. I replaced the flavorizer bars with the enamel (the stainless were rusting within no time) bought new burner tubes to replace the old ones and just now, in the process of changing them out, the mount that the screw for the burner tube broke.

I called weber about 5 months after I got the grill because the flavorizer bars were already starting to rust and they said, "if they rust all the way through contact us".

IIRC they switched from 304ss to 430 at some point which means that we are no longer buying the same quality when we buy them. I'm about to put in a warranty claim but it might be just so that I can sell this. (I'm a little frustrated right now).

I have 304SS flavorizer bars in my and my dad's Genesis grills (custom made) They show surface "rust". You're bellyaching about nothing. Odds of you burning through the stainless ones in your grill are pretty nil. Why on earth you'd want to use the enameled ones in their place is totally beyond me. As for how it looks after sitting in storage just clean it again. My Wolf (solid 304 SS) looks like hell if I don't clean it also. I'll admit I am pretty disappointed at the drop in quality of Weber's products (especially the Genesis and Summit lines) BUT it's not as awful as you're descriptions. Glean it up, use the bars and burners you have until (or unless) they should ever really fail (not just look different).

Bellyaching? I am not complaining about minor problems here, these are pretty substantial and this isn't just surface rust. Perhaps my expectations were too high. My dad had a weber grill that made four trips across the ocean and fared better in one of the most humid places I've ever been than this one did in a climate controlled storage unit. We pay a premium for a better product and I'm just not convinced that it is better than any of the $500 grills sitting next to it.

Rust on the flavorizer bars are not a defect. Even high grade stainless like the ones from weber or rcplanerbuyer start to rust almost immediately. But if they are a thick metal (like the webers) it takes many years for them to rust through. Weber was correct to not replace them.

To Weber's credit they are sending me a new cookbox and flavorizer bars. (I had called about the flavorizer bars before and was told to wait). I get that rust happens on the flavorizer bars but this wasn't just surface rust. This was rust flaking off like on an 80's sedan floorboard.

I just picked up one of the EP-330 models from my local Ace a few days ago. I was planning to get a S-330 this year, but when I found the EP-330, with the same stainless flavorizer bars, grates and heat shields that the S-330 has, for $100 less, I pulled the trigger.

So far, we're lovin' it. Had cedar-planked pork loin with pineapple relish and grilled asparagus tonight, and it was great.

I've got a 2010 NG E320 that has been stellar. Cast iron grates, steel flavorizer bars, it's used a lot and has held up well for being 6 years old. Nothing has been or needs to be replaced.
On the other hand I have a three burner SS Ducane (made by Weber). I hate the SS, a pain to keep clean and the SS grates I swear you could boil them in oil and a 50/50 hamburger would stick to them like they were made of contact cement. The fact I got it for free in mint condition and it has the infrared back burner for roti use which works great (because the food doesn't touch the SS grates) is the only reason I keep it.
I'm done now.

There's a Ducane on CL near here, been up for two weeks and still sitting. I wonder if it's the backside issues you refer to Rich.
I'm not convinced that I need it but, GAS does tickle me now and then.

Timothy, I must admit the Ducane is a well built grill, the thing weighs a ton. It's also the only gasser I have with N/S burners which I'm starting to like. I might see about some cast iron grates if I can find some that will fit. Although parts are not as readily available as Weber parts but this one having so little use hasn't needed anything yet.

Not sure why you're getting the sticking Rich. I have the cast iron (newer style porcelain) on my Genesis, Bare cast iron on my Wolf and Stainless on the Summit and Broilmaster. I honestly see no difference in sticking or ability to sear (though I will say the stainless ones on my Broilmaster and Summit are MUCH heavier than what Weber is now using). Frankly they have really cheapened them up and there might be the issue with the Ducane. Not sure

Really can't say as the Ducane has the only SS grates in my fleet all the others except the kettle gasser and the performers are CI. The SS grates look pretty robust and our very heavy. The other night I did a couple of strip steaks, oiled the grates and I had to use a spatula to chisel them off the grates to flip them, The steaks had a great sear that stayed on the grates:mad:. Unless it's me, but I'm doing the exact same procedure with the CI grates and no problems. It really is a shame as the Ducane is a well built grill even though it was made in China it was still when Weber had control of them.

Yep I just did some pork "country ribs". Nothing fancy salt, pepper and smoke on the Summit. No sticking at all. Did swordfish on the Broilmaster Wednesday no problems. Are the Ducane grates truly stainless? Or are they tubes wrapped around cast iron like so many Chinese made grills are with grates that look like and feel like stainless? Having never seen a Chinese Ducane I don't know how to answer this. I did have a Members Mark (Sams) (what POS) with grates like that and because the outside wrapping of stainless would never truly come to full temperature stuff stuck like glue
