SNF....Ribs and Mexican street hot dogs

Looks like they've gone commercial. Saw these in the supermarket today here in San Jose. "Hollywood's Original"...

Interesting! Funny how the package says Hollywood's Original, when their origins here in L.A. were in East L.A, Downtown, and South Central. Hollywood's very own iconic "Pinks Hotdogs" does not even carry this style of dog. Neither does L.A. hot dog haven "Okie Dog" or East L.A.'s "Chronies". This is a street vendors dog.

You think Dodgers Stadium and Staples Center would have picked up on these, but they don't sell them either. The street vendors outside Staples selling them from their carts are plentiful after Lakers and Clippers games at Staples.

When a great cook sparks conversation -- that's a good post: interesting how regional favs hit the main stream. Sticky Fingers sauces are all over the shelves here. ...but bacon wrapped dogs -- gotta make em ourselves.

Did you remove the water pan for a direct cook on those dogs? Nice technique.

Water pan removed and the smell was amazing.

Noticed a lot of these vendors use a cooking sheet heated by small propane burners underneath. Some of the best food is simple.

Hoffy supplies hot dogs to Pink's. From the Pink's FAQ:

Pink's hot dogs have been specially made for Pink's by Hoffy since 1939. They are all-beef and have a natural casing that makes them snap when you bite into them.

Pink's sells a hot dog topped with 3 strips of bacon, but none wrapped in bacon. Wrapped sounds better to me!

Chris

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Pinks - the original Melrose and La Brea location. My favorite offering being the Pastrami Burrito (2 dogs, pastrami, swiss cheese, chili, onions).

That being said, some restaurant style hot-dog joint will eventually pull the bacon-wrapped "L.A. Dog" off the street and make some good coin.

Check out this video I made of a real Mexican street hot dog in Mazatlan. I hope I'm not breaking any rules and you are all able to see it. :)
