Smoked Chicken at Shelter Island

GF was out of town this week and I had some studying to do, and this could only mean one thing. BBQ TIME!!!!!!! Headed down to our local bay, Shelter Island. Drove down there and luckily they had charcoal pits. Also, this was a good opportunity for me to give the Cowboy charcoal a try.

There is a military base across from Shelter Island. First things first, saw this HUGE C-17 taking off. The sheer size of it was pretty startling and it was still picking up speed and trying to climb. The plane felt like it was going so slowwwwww.....

Set it and forget it.. Windy day too! Had it going at 220F for 1 hour, then 325 to 350 for the next 1 hour and 15 minutes.

See, he was studying. No beer is sight either :) Nice day at the park, thanks for sharing, Andy.

It's just a decoy for when my girlfriend views this page (just kidding).

It was a very nice day. The heat from several weeks ago has finally let up, and it feels once again like San Diego. I donated 3 pieces of chicken and rice to a homeless man and he REALLY enjoyed it. That made my day--to be able to help out a bit.

Cool pics and great looking chicken!!! It has been forever since I have been to Shelter Island. How did the Cowboy lump work out for you?
