SHRIMP PSA- Proceed with caution!

I haven’t gotten shrimp at Costco in quite a while, no particular reason but, shrimp has not been high on the “I feel like“ list lately. NOW you guys have me thinking about a nice big batch-of “oreganato”! Damned enablers!😉

We only do shrimp and it's bigger cousin, lobster, only a few times a year. Generally, I've had awfully good luck getting them at Costco, I just have to be careful to make sure I'll be able to use it all. Nearly all of the other times, I'm probably getting it from Coastal Seafood (St. Paul, MN,) who are rather pricey but have great product.

I've done the whole lobster thing here at home, and have very little interest in doing that again. Frozen cold water tails get us nearly all of the enjoyment at a small fraction of the effort.

I have to read that shrimp stuff still.....but the more I learn the less yummy stuff I end up eating.....
Here is a couple links to get you started if you wanted to read up on the salmon issues......farmed is pretty toxic. Brett said something about using farmed in a specific dish, I do not recall what it is now.
Now I am sure some farmed is better than others but these links will get you thinking for sure......just a couple I found relatively quickly.

all websites i'd never give credit to. sorry.

you might have just posted, "so this guy I know, says xxx about shrimp or salmon or lobster."

Because of the increased demand for shrimp, southeast Asia is seeing a lot of deforestation to make room for more shrimp farms. Not good.

I buy Dominick's in the blue bag. Wild-caught in the Gulf of Mexico and not treated with any sort of sodium compounds - the bag lists shrimp as the only ingredient. It costs more ($18.99/lb at Festival Foods today) than farmed and/or treated shrimp but I consider it money well spent.
