Should you say anything?

Ever had a diner guest that you prepared a meal for give absolutely no feedback at all? Happens way more often than I would of expected. Does this mean my food it shyt?

IT:

DEFINITELY means that your guests are ungracious/unappreciative. Anyone can say something intelligent such as "I would have never thought to put katsup on cranberries" about any meal. That is simply good manners.

POSSIBLY also means that your food is shyt, because no one is raving about it.

Ross, I agree with Scott on the first response. Take in to consideration your guest/guests. I find that younger people don't even know to say something about the meal. Or is the guest someone who has eaten your food quite often and feels that just cleaning up their plate says it all.

I agree this probably sums most of it up. I have a few things I've made that people raved about. But also a bunch where I didn't even get a "thank you that was good" etc. And I don't expect people to rave about everything, some of the things aren't expected to blow everyone out of the water when I'm cooking for a large group, but I find it almost awkward when they don't say a single peep.

One of the things I love about this forum is the positivity. Sometimes we are maybe even overly positive but that's ok. I've seen people post pictures of food, and I think "Wow that really looks terrible" but I don't think there's any need to point that out. I might say what I like about it, or keep my mouth shut if there is nothing, but usually there's something to like. Sometimes I would like some constructive criticism and that's hard to find here, but at least I can post something and know no one is going to rip me apart where I feel like that could happen on some other forums. One of the things that helps is we do user our own names here, and I think that makes people think twice about posting something crass. There are a few guys that get a little mean after a few glasses, but that's ok.

Hey Neighbor.
After every meal I always ask everyone " how was it"
I do it whether I liked it or not. Critique is good and we all know we are our own worst critic's.

Thanks neighbor, I agree! I will start asking this. You got any local secrets I should know? lol.

Dustin, your right. Most everything people say here is on the positive side. But like you said, sometimes it is best to not say anything. lol

Timothy, do you always believe what they say or do you sometimes think they are just being polite?

There is a difference between an opinion and an attack. We all know what the best burner orientation is yet there are still attacks on people's opinions.
Exactly, just because JSaus knows that the E-W way is better doesn't mean others should attack him for it!😄

I used to think that, now I like the N/S burners. I am waiting for the diagonal orientation.
I know, I was just kidding. I'm sure I could grow to like the N-S configuration, if not the grill itself. I just can't believe anybody would get nasty about that with you.

That is the nice thing about this forum. I do not believe I have seen anyone getting nasty with others. Opinions seem respected. Other forums I gave been on often get threads shut down due to disrespect. Good crowd here-perhaps because we appear to be older as a group.

I’ve been a little more crotchety now and then but, Chris has reminded me when I am not being helpful😉. And he has been right.

Your right, almost everyone here has been very nice and very helpful. I think that is why Chris has a site with over 20,000 members. Granted, not all members have stuck around and not all members contribute to this site, but those of us that do, I think we are very nice people. ;):) (darn, where is the smilie patting itself on the back)
