Second time to use the Performer

Picked up some McCormick blue moon seasonings from SAMS awhile back and after tasting it decided I needed to try it on some chicken.

Well last night finally got a chance to try it out. I have only grilled tenders marinated over night in italian dressing and honey on my old gas grill. Usually have a few burnt pieces due to cold and hot spots.

I butterflied two of the boneless/skinless breast and smashed the other two not know which style I would particularly perfer. Cut up some red bell peppers and threw them down too. Some fresh green beans were cooked inside for my two little boys.

I had my 5 year old son help me with the charcoal and lighting and also putting a little seasoning on the bell peppers. Grilled the chicken indirectly for the beginning then moving them on the coals to finish them up. No plated pictures but here is a picture when it went down.

It took a little longer to cook then i originally expected but the out come was great. Stayed really juicy and both my girlfriend and the boys ( 3 and 5 years old) loved it.

A plus to using my new grill is my neighbor knows when I'm out back and brought me some Apple Pie and Cherry Shine he's father made.

Guess I owe him some brisket on my next run.

Cherry Shine?? I love your neighbor :). In the Caribbean they do it with peaches. It's a Christmas staple :). Well done!

Awesome way to get some shine.
I was pretty pumped when he asked if I enjoyed a drink. After that he began asking about my cooking style on the brisket. Had to let him know I'm a rookie in training.
Looks good!

Nice looking cook
Thanks Doug and Tim!

Yes indeed. Sipping on some now. Just laid the kiddos down to bed. Time to relax. I'll have to quiz him on any other flasies they make. May hint towards trying a peach if they aren't making it.

Tonight I grilled some petite sirloins. My lady grabbed them at Albertsons by a pack of two get a pack of two free. I like free and they came out great. I'm liking this charcoal grilling.

Great cook and with your neighbors great drink WOW!! Then to top it off great company to share it with!!

Nice food & glad that you have a nice neighbor too.
Hope that we get lucky & have neighbors like that when we move soon.

~~~It's the only way I've ever cooked outdoors, cept for my WSM's...
BTW, I recently acquired a Performer myself...what a nice grill, built in table, place to store your coal, and other fire starting acc., then there's the hanging tool rack, well, a place to hang three tools, which is luxury AFAIC. Hope you'll enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine=:-)
In the event you haven't seen any of my Performer threads, I had a guy cut a 3/16" thick piece of mild steel, into a half circle (21.5" diameter). I lay it right on top of the Weber's grate you grill on, with the hinged sides...makes killer hamburgs!
I need to update pics of this griddle that show some patina...this is the best pic I have doing that
and it's a night shot, so you can't see the surface that well but she's building up a nice crust. I'll clean it, using my metal spatula and another metal spat type scraper, to get the crusty bits off, while it's hot, then I just wipe it down by drizzling a little bit of oil (canola) on it and move that oil around with a spatula and or a paper towel wadded up, held with a pair of tongs
I can't say enough about how well this style of spatula works on the griddle, vs. the shorter more conventional metal types, used for flipping burgers...just throwing this out here if getting a griddle might be something you think you'll want to do down the road. A local welder made this one for me for $20, and I find I cook most of my food on it vs. using the hinged grates that came with my Performer Gold
Again, you may not be interested in this but I'm throwing it out here if you never gave thought to griddling over coal...
caramelizes/grills chopped onions for your burgers well too!
