Marinaded the 4.5 lb chicken in roadside marinade. No orange juice at home so subbed grapefruit. Worked fine for the 24 hour marinade.
Dried, oiled and ready to go. No pan and let her rip. Started off with 1/2 hot chimney on additional cold coals, so she started around 250F, but steadily got hotter.

About 40 minutes in. Wing tips getting crispy, but not worried.

Some organic turnips. Greens look so good I decided to cook them too. Sautéed the turnips and some carrots in butter, s&p for a minute, added a little water and covered until tender. Set aside. Sautéed some homemade bacon with shallot, garlic and ginger, then added the greens, s&p and some water. Simmered until tender, about 20 minutes. combined the turnips, carrots, and greens and tossed a mix of pomegranate molasses, tamarind, a little sugar, ground coriander, soy into it. Ready to serve.

WSM getting real hot. concerned about burning the bird, so closed the bottom vents at the one hour mark.

At the 1 hour, 30 minute mark, took the chick off the WSM and set aside to rest for a few minutes. Smells good!

Cut up and ready to serve.

Simply served with orzo. Loved the chicken. Super moist, as the marinade basically brines the bird. But the real star was the turnips. Super flavorful. I was inspired by the turnips in this recipe, but did a much simpler modified version.

Thanks for the visit. Hope everyone had a good weekend. I am loving this cooler weather in the northeast!
P. S. There seems to be a theme developing (Jim, Geir), so here's our entry. Brand new 2013 dark grey Prius 2.
