John Mueller, the legendary barbecue pitmaster and scion of one of Texas’ great barbecue families, died this week at his home in Frisco.

Condolences to his family. I followed him on Twitter. He was complicated. Was very proud of his high school football helmet and how beat up and scarred it was, from sticking his nose into the fray. From what I knew of him, that trait carried on throughout his life.

And 52 is waaayyy tooo young.

That's sad. I wasn't able to track him down on my BBQ trip to Texas in 2019, and really wanted to. I'd heard good things about his "hot and fast" brisket, and wanted to see what the hubub was about.
